This was like watching a superb athlete. This is not some play where they just stick in a film actor to make some bucks. Jude Law is amazing. A gorgeous, stark, beautiful production.

Thank you! :D

Jude Law has been one of my favorite actors since I realized who he was...and I believe has shown time and time again that he's more than just a movie star, but an actor who can deliver a sustained role. This is now definitely on my "to see list" during my next trip to NYC late in November.

Thanks again. :p

New York

I love the fact that NYC has so many things to do. I will check it out when I go to NY to see James Bond and Wolverin play.

I also have liked him as an actor in everything I have seen. Tho "Sleuth" left a lot to be desired as a production, Michael Caine and he were terrific. The gay come-on scene was a turn on. Law was definitely someone you want to turn on his stomach and take care of as he says he wants. Or at least I did.

I'm not sure what you mean, sorry. Just curious... :)

Hamlet with Jude Law

Went wanting to hate it.

Loved the first half.

Got bored in the second.

Couldn't wait for them to all die in the end.

LOL

Sorry. I assumed we all passed 10th grade English and knew that already.

I appologise, especially to our international guests who most likely never

had to suffer through 10th grade English, for ruining the ending of one of

the greatest works of the English language.

"Get thee to a nunnery"

Which by-the-way was common slang for "*****house" in Shakespear's day.

Who knew? Ophelia was a *****!

You know there could be some nuns reading this MC. A fine way to talk. I'm not even going to mention the *****.

So glad to hear you enjoyed "Hamlet" with Jude Law. It will probably be one of the major highlights of this theater season.

The reviews for "Bye Bye Birdie" were less than kind and the show is in serious trouble, perhaps all the gay ghosts at the newly renovated Henry Miller Theater are upset that their cruising has been interrupted by bad singing and dancing!

Also, another bomb about to go off is "After Miss Julie." I saw it last night and well, to be kind, I HATED IT! A major snore. The tepid applause at the end proved that the rest of the audience agreed with me.

I believe he's referring to A Steady Rain with Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman.

Thank you.

BTW, regarding Hamlet...I have my tickets now. =)

Saw the production Saturday...the matinee. Very good. They however did not bring much attention to many of the "popular" quotes. For instance, "There's something rotten in the state of Denmark". I missed it. lol I also found it difficult to understand what the father/ghost was saying...as he had such a deep voice; very pleasant to listen to, but was not easily understood.

The play ran 3 hours. Prior to this, I had no familiarization with the script except for having watched the latest release about 10 years ago. My English class back in high school had us reading A Separate Peace, etc...but not the works of Shakespeare. Speaking with the person I went to see the performance with, they made note that in this production they made it appear that the queen was innocent of any involvement in Hamlet's father's murder. I don't know, as I'm not familiar with the actual script...and don't remember the movie that well. They appeared to play with it...and go back and forth on her involvement and not.

Either way, I found the entire production enjoyable...but probably would not have seen it had Jude Law not been performing as Hamlet. For any who have the chance to see it before it ends, I'd suggest you do. :)

I thought Jude Law was terrific in "Hamlet" (thought the Sleuth remake was one of the worst films I've ever seen and he was atrociously bad) but most of the actors around him were mediocre at best. A missed opportunity.

Make sure you see Carrie Fisher's "Wishful Drinking." Hysterical.
