Does anyone have any info Good/Bad or otherwise concerning the Setting Up and use of SKYPE?

Other than the Headset is it Basically a "Freebie" Phone Call to other SKYPE users? ;)

Thanks for any info...:)

I love it. It's free, and if you have speakers and a mic built into your computer you don't need a headset. You can do good voice and video chat for free with anyone on Skype, and for a nominal fee ($3.00/month) make unlimited calls from your computer to any cell or landline phone. Connections are great. I use it a lot for long distance calls that are not on my cell network (ATT) during daytime hours. And it makes for a fairly good non-blocked but still basically anonymous phone no. to use in when one is handing.

My daughter is a first-year college student and we love having long video chats. Would obviously be good for other sorts of video chats, too!

Highly recommended!

I recommend skype. I'm living in Europe this year and it's such an easy (and free!) way to keep in touch with people. I have a webcam with a mic so I use that, but you can also make almost free calls to everywhere. Get it now.

Love Skype !! Best VOIP ever.

Also I love the Skype iPhone application. When I'm in a WiFi zone I can call anyone on Skype no matter what country free of charge if they are also on skype. If not it only costs about 2cents a minute to call almost anywhere (except European Cell phones). European cell phones cost about 20 cents or 34 cents a minute to call directly.

And now AT&T will allow Skype calls over 3G as they reported a couple of weeks ago.

I was planning on using Skype next time I went overseas to try to reduce my phone bill but didn't know about the iPhone app, thanks for sharing. =)

Disappearing Numbers

I installed Skype a few months ago, but before I could get started with it, I had to uninstall it because it was making all of the phone numbers on all webpages disappear! Anyone else had this problem or know what can be done about it?

There's a setting that enables Skype to dial directly by clicking on a phone number on a webpage. I assume that has something to do with your problem. It's either a setting in Skype or an add-on tool in your browser. I disabled it as well; it didn't make my numbers disappear but ruined the layout of the pages. Hope this helps.

Love It, Too

I've used it for about 4 years both in the USA and when traveling in Europe.

Sometimes I've experienced some disconnects in the middle of a call but I assume that was ISP-related and not a problem with SKYPE service.

Thanks for the advice, Kevin. I'm going to try to reinstall Skype, looking out for this setting or add-on.

I use version 3.8.0.188. I really disliked the interface of some newer version I once downloaded.

At least on that version, it's under Tools > Options > Advanced > Advanced Settings > Associate Skype with callto: links on the web. Uncheck the box and your problem may be fixed.
