Say, One Finger, you are the guy here who probably knows Utah the best, so what gives with this company there hiring hundreds of little kids to make cold calls? Is this a Mormon thing, or just the return of Fagen?

(One Finger is not seriously expected to know the answer to this question!)

It is a Mormon thing. We have to send the hoards of teen agers into the work place so we can afford to support all our wives and pre-teen kids. :)

But, in reading the article, it appears the company is BASED in Utah but has been pulling this same stunt in Arizona, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.

However, I think this type of telemarketing employment is much more acceptable than what was done at the Utah State Prison. They had inmates doing telemarketing including the processing of orders via credit card payments. Then, the state wondered why there was a sudden increase in credit card fraud.

They also had a couple of inmates getting their rocks off by turning the cold calls into phone sex.

You wouldn't believe some of the stuff that goes on here.

:D Laughed my ass off. We have had equally loopy stuff allowed to go on in my state's prison so I believe you. My brother used to lease online resources cheap from an inmate of the California prison system. The guy's prison job was job was to maintain the IT system and he decided to go into business for himself on California's nickel. This scam went on for years and the prison never noticed.

Nope, he was doing it for a couple of years before I pieced together what was going on. I did my best to persuade him that what he was up to was crazy. Unfortunately my brother actually was/is crazy (bi-polar, not quite committable, but close) and he liked the discount. Luckily the inmate closed up shop about 6 months later and the question became moot. And if you have to ask why I didn't drop a dime on him, all I can say is that you must not have a baby brother.

hehehe...I am the baby brother in my family. They'd drop a dime on me in a heartbeat!

LOL! Probably not. We older siblings often feel the urge to do great bodily harm to the young uns, but we usually manage to fight off the impulse.
