Researchers at the Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athlethic Trauma serendipitously discovered a quick and inexpensive cure for strained &/or inflamed tendons. It turns out doing simple eccentric exercises with a $20 rubber bar works far better and quicker than conventional treatments.

This article headlines tennis elbow but read on. The method is said to work for golfers, weightlifters and others who place undue stress on their tendons. Near as I can make out, tendons have the natural capacity to heal themselves, given the right encouragement.

So many posts here mention gyms, I thought this might be a subject of general interest. The rubber bar is called the Thera-Band Flexbar and is available on Amazon.com.

The most interesting thing for me was not so much the flexbar itself but the proof of concept for the healing effects of eccentric exercise. I would imagine that the same general method would work for places (like the achilles tendon) where the Flexbar might not be the right tool.

Glad to have been of some help. :o Many others here have posted stuff that has been useful to me, so it's nice to be able to offer something back occasionally. :)

EDIT: In all modesty, I feel oblighed to point out it was the linked article that was useful, not my very limited personal knowledge.

I just returned a few minutes ago from a two hour tennis match, and my tennis elbow aches; I wish I had one of those flexbars right now. Thanks for the article. (I am also sitting here typing with an icepack around my neck, because I got hit in the back of the neck--hard--with a ball, and I think I may have been playing for the last two weeks with a broken wrist. Sometimes I wonder if I should stop sublimating and just go back to having sex.)

I am sorry if you have a broken wrist. That can not be fun on any level.

I also don't think that you are stating that you should go from being a solid with an unusual transference to a gas (without becoming a liquid). Therefore you must be referring to sex as an art form. I am sure that it is, especially on some level. So, you are denying "pig sex" on any level?

I am just kidding you. Sorry that you have an injury but glad you are exercising. Good for the soul as well as the body.

Best regards,

KMEM

You really should leave his shrink out of it. :p

I received a golden shower night before last that was pure art. What's to deny?

What we need is a Flexbar for the brain.

What we need is something to do besides hanging around here obsessively reading and posting. But you takes what you can get.

This from a guy who spent Friday nite getting (artistically) hosed down! :D

As I said, you takes what you can get.

Anyway, said watersports were a far, far better thing than hanging around here. Even though pissing on each other is a favorite sport of these boards.

P.S. Lest this be taken the wrong way, these remarks come from someone who won a prize for obsessively hanging around and posting. On the Other Site, but still.
