You're not the first to notice. I think that's why Hooboy started the policy of identify new reviewers. Of course, everyone has to start somewhere, but most of the time I feel first-time reviews are just advertisements from the escort. Occasional ones are OK, but there have been some escorts who would write themselves nice reviews on an almost weekly basis. Talvin Demachio used to have a new 1st-time reviewer every 3 weeks for years in the first couple of years of this decade. (Well, occasionally there was a 2nd-time reviewer--whose only other prior review was another glowing review of Talvin). Not to single him out, because I'm sure other contributors to this forum can recall a number of escorts who were also prolific writers...

Speaking of Calvin, I have not seen him advertise lately. Did he retire?

This is an ongoing problem, and you need to be cautious when an escort has nothing but a bunch of reviews from first timers, especially when they're in close succession. There have been cases in the past where the reviews were either so badly written or used wording that was so similar that it was immediately obvious that they were all from the same person - probably the escort himself.

When I find this for someone who looks otherwise interesting I tend to drop a note in the Deli asking if anybody knows anything about the dude.

The question is different for each of us, just what is your expectation of a review. I think sometimes we over analyze the situation. Are we being a little bitchy about the subject, we complain when it is first-time reviewers, we complain when the reviews are too long or too short. They use poor spelling, grammar and punctuation. Reviews are too old or there only two reviews. I guy can have 10-20 stellar reviews and it is not going to prevent a so-so meeting. I can name a few of those.

A review does not replace your own communication with the gentleman. Have a game plan prepared ahead of time what you want, where, when and how the funds will be paid (upfront, after or 50/50) just be clear on the basics. If after a couple of minutes of conversation or an email or two you are not comfortable, than move on. I think sometimes we as the clients get caught up in the hiring process that we forget there is another party involved. Also a little perspective, if you are only meeting for an hour or two than take a chance, but hold true to your game plan, if you feel uncomfortable than cancel but don’t expect the gentleman to renew acquaintances if you do.
