I presume you are correct. About half an hour ago, I was purused and surfed the Los Angeles roster when the site did as you stated. Let us all believe that there is some technical problem happening there!

This is unfortunate for the guys who want to hook up and meet escorts this Saturday night!

They seem to have a chronic problem at high volume times - ie Friday and Sat evening NY time. I was perusing last week and it was extremely slow-thought it was going to crash any time, but it didn't just was painfully slow. Another guy I sent some links to said he couldn't get in at all to comment

It's Monday the 24th of August 2009, and the "girl" is NOT operable. I clicked on the site in Casey Steam's one and only review and received only a blank screen. I hope "she'll" get her act together and begin to be functioning very soon! This situation is horrendous for both escorts and clients! -:)

Guys, excuse my use of feminine pronouns today! My brain and fingers forced me to do so! -:)

Hello hello!

I am attempting to create a travel ad on Rentboy.com for Washington DC but I continue to receive the following error and I was wondering if anyone else has in the past or is currently receiving this error.

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>

<system.web>

<customErrors mode="Off"/>

</system.web>

</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>

<system.web>

<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>

</system.web>

</configuration>

When I attempted to call RB Support, I was told that no such error exists.

Shortly after posting this message, I submitted an email to Rentboy support and the error appears to have been corrected but now I'm not sure that my travel ad is being placed in the corrected. Though, I did have an unpleasant conversation with a gentleman named Brandon (I believe that was his name) who appeared to be inconvenienced by my call and without allowing me to finish my conversation, he hung up on me and said he would get to my issue "sometime" during the course of his day.

Rentboy's arrogance is legend. One escort, not local to NYC, told me of not being able to resolve a billing dispute until he could get to their office in person and knock heads around.

But they are in some respects the only game in town. The only site I know of where, if the ad is up, it is live and current and the escort is serious about being available then.

If men4rentnow would prune their site of all the deadwood ads, it would at least give rentboy some competition.

I agree, M4RN does have a number of inactive ads on their server which can be frustrating for clients searching which I can COMPLETELY understand. That said, I think it has been quite some time since that site has been down, unlike RB which seems to have a number of system issues and is well documented on this forum by escorts and clients.

The one part of my call to RB support and my conversation with Mr. Brandon that has resonated in my mind since that unfortunate conversation was that RB wasn't having system issues and the insinuation that it was my fault or that I was incapable of creating a travel ad correctly as this has happened 3 other times, all from creating travel ads. When I kindly asked that the incorrect ad be deleted and my card refunded, he refused and then terminated the call.

I have noticed that RB is king of the hill in select cities, NYC to be the main one but where I live (Dallas, TX) it's not used often and most of my requests which pan out to be legit come from M4RN, same holds true when I'm in Chicago, Boston, Vegas and a handful of other cities. Is this true for other escorts who advertise on RB? I've always been a bit curious.

No question that RB should quit being so fucking cheap, and buy more server capacity. M4RN site has much better availability/response times.

Also agree RB site is finicky and glitchy when placing/updating ads. I've updated or reactivated a friend's ad a number of times, and easily 25-33% of the time, the site does not behave right. Something which, again, I've never seen when creating/updating an ad on M4RN.

No, M4RN just arbitrarily edits your content without consulting you, deleting random words and then activating your ad six hours later with a Palinesque word salad.

Agreed.

I've always had good luck with M4RN when it comes to posting my ad and they also allow you to post your ad in other cities (travel ads) free of charge depending on your membership level which I have always appreciated. For myself personally, I expect reliability, consistency and good service which I don't think is asking for much. When editing my ads on M4RN, edits are almost always approved within the hour and with very little to no technical issues. Do other advertisers on this site also experience this level of service?

If I had to point my finger on one thing about M4RN that I would like to see change in the future, it would be the amount of characters that can be used by advertisers to detail their services. That said, they are consistent at limiting everyone (no matter what one's membership level is) to 500 characters. While this is challenging to fit into that limited amount of space, it does force creativity but again, I do wish that they would allow for more text and some good formatting.

I only wished M4RN would give more of a description of the services the guys offer and their versitlity.

I find them anything but consistent. I can put the same text in my ad each time and it's always a crap shoot what it'll look like when they're done butchering it. (Today we're deleting gerunds!) It's embarrassing that they then publish the ad, making it look as if it is I and not they who is challenged with the English language.

I've learned the trick with that site is just to keep resubmitting the same text or pic and eventually it'll slip through the way you want it, but usually not before three or four bizarre iterations from their side first.

I have noticed that as well and have used that same trick a time or two to push things through the system.

As long as we're being generous, let's let the clients put more than 30 characters in the emails they send to the escorts as well.

I learned something new today. Apparently the agent from Rentboy that I spoke with is based out of LA and it was suggested that going forward to call during the NYC hours which delivers a more soothing customer service experience.

Agreed.

I wasn't aware that clients too were restricted a certain amount of characters in their initial requests. Good to know - much appreciated!

Whether I'm logged in or not, any time I've tried to run a search on Rentboy this past week, I've gotten 'Runtime Error' messages all over the place. I have to say that I've become really unimpressed with Rentboy over the past year - it used to be the best site out there, but technically it's been on a downward slope for a while now... :rolleyes:

Wasn't there a change in ownership last year? That might have something to do with it...
