Depp as Channing?

Johnny Deep wants to play Carol Channing. I am sure he would be great. But, there's little drama in Channing's life, except the revelation that she only had sex with her husband twice in their forty-year marriage. Is there a story there that I am missing?

 

Even during the golden age of Broadway, Channing ran a poor third to Ethel Merman and Mary Martin with audiences. Well Ed Wood wasn't a big star either and that movie worked well.

Carol Channing, deserved or not, is immensely popular.

At 88, Carol Channing just did a benefit show last week here in San Francisco. She and her husband have established a foundation to further arts in schools. She is a bit unsteady on her feet and tends to lose her train of thought, but can still hold an audience's attention.

 

Haven't a clue what a movie about her would focus on, but if Depp wants to do it, then I look forward to seeing it.

Just Lucky I Guess

 

I just read (scan would be more accurate word) Channing's 2002 autobiography, Just Lucky I Guess. For someone who attended Bennington College, Channing is surprisingly wacky and disconnected in the best and worst sense of the words.

 

I agree that Channing is a more appropriate Broadway star for a film than Merman or Martin. A film about either of the latter two would essentially end up in some variation of "then I starred in........"

Depp could read the phone book and I'd go see it (especially if I can get one of those $6.00 early bird before noon tickets).

Depp and Channing...Tatum. Now there would be a hot duo.
