Long Term Stay Suggestions in New York City

For understandable reasons, there have been several productive threads here on suggested short term stay places in New York of the 2 or 3 hour kind.

 

I've got the opposite problem. A young co-ed and her mother from the far east will be here for three weeks in middle to late August while the coed registers for college. They are intimidated by the $300/night hotel rates they're seeing on line at the major chains and not knowing the city are leery of using Craigslist or Priceline.

 

Any suggestions?

Definitely Deal with a Reputable Company like NY HABITAT!

 

I had a Friend who had a "Private Deal" from an AD set up and the Apt owner pulled out at the last minute, causing a Major Logisitics problem!

 

I realize this could happen at anytime BUT I think less when dealing with Pro's who set this up for a living.

JT, in my message, I pointed out that the NY Habitat site offered floorplans and pictures where you were on your own with Craigslist.

 

And Lucky, you're clairvoyant (at least). At the bottom of my alternatives was a nearby hostel that was too dingy to really commend. I used the vrbo.com website to link to its posting and suggested they search around that site for a more appropriate selection.
