So hear I am in bed having what seems like an all day nic fit & it's keeping me from sleeping. I really do not want to grab a piece of Nicoret gum or buy a pack of smoke I really don't but this is driving me crazy. GRRRRRRR MAKE IT GO AWAY!!!!!!! :(

Hugs,

Greg

Start thinking about something or someone who really made you angry; something that you just cannot forget. That should get your "resistant" juices flowing. Otherwise, get to sleep or get up and get going on something to get your mind off smoking.

I found when I had a low moment or was sorely tempted to just have one cigarette, if I could get angry and get my mind on that vs. smoking I could get through the moment.

Best regards,

Greg, no matter how bad it gets, keep trying and don't give up.

KMEM's advice sounds like a workable idea and a great way to work out your anger issues....provided the room is empty at the time.

Anyway, the best of luck with this...it's important and you have all of our support I'm sure.

Well I diverted having a smokey :) Oh it was so hard and I pretty much tossed and turned not getting to bed till I think close to 5am. I even went to one of the 24 hr diners (Hurricane Cafe) down the hill from me to try to sedate myself with a yummy bacon cheese burger and unfort it didn't work. I don't know what triggered the massive urge but glad I didn't cave in :)

Greg

Good for you

I always encourage people not to smoke. It is not good for your body. I don't drink a lot either. Whenever I have an urge to drink I substitute it with something healthy like fresh fruit smoothie. I am getting my health back. I am glad that you are quitting! Good for you!

For me it was I couldn't justify spending about $8 a day for a pack of smokes. Not worth it! This mucked up state gets enough money from me they don't need more!

When the doctor gives advice, one of the first things he says is to quit smoking. People who have health problems need to heed that advice even more than the average Joe. Stick with it, Greg, you can do it.

I have a solution to the craving problem. It worked for me when I was on a diet to shed pounds and it could possibly work for a person trying to stop smoking.

Cravings - really intense cravings that drive you nuts - usually don't last all that long. If you can get over the really bad minutes, you usually have it licked.

When it got so bad that I thought I would die if I didn't eat a peanut butter sandwich, a piece of chocolate cake or whatever else it was I craved....... I'd jump into a bathtub, run the water, soap up and have a good soak. After 15 or twenty minutes of that (and let's face it, you can't jump out of the tub dripping wet to eat) I found that the craving had passed.

And a side effect - I had never been so clean in my life........

Funny!

Greg, you'll have as many supporters and free ideas as there are ex-smokers. Here's another. Whenever I'd get the urge to take a nice long drag, I'd do it, except without the cigarette. I'd pull the air deep into my waiting lungs and, for the first few seconds, they bought right into it. I'd keep on taking deep drags of air until the urge passed, which it inevitably did.

Here's one more thing to watch out for, since I think you're going to be successful in kicking the habit. There will come a day when you notice that you don't seem to be getting strong cravings any more. You may be tempted to have an occasional after-dinner cigarette, since you're not addicted any more. Fugetaboutit! Twice I got reeled back in that way only to have to go through the same drill all over again two more times.

Best to start thinking of yourself as an ex-smoker as of a month ago, with lungs that are already starting to turn a pretty pink.

One week later- how's it going, Greg?

You are so considerate to follow up. Good for you Greg!
