I had blood drawn yesterday and the nurse who proclaimed 'I never miss' naturally missed :( So I had a few bandages on my arm as I headed to the car wash right afterward.

Where I live you drive up to a guy who processes your car wash request and collects your money. Yesterday it was a very hot looking man in his late twenties. He was tall well built with an awesome smile.

As he approached my window he noticed the bandages and asked me if everything was good. I explained just routine blood work and he said 'well I hope all goes well we want to see you stay around for a while.' Now that was a friendly thing to say but what happened next took me a little by surprised. He reached into my car briefly rubbed my shoulder and said 'I'm sure you'll be fine.'

His remarks and action was no more than one person showing concern for another - a genuine random gesture of kindness. Just think if more people were like this what a beautiful world we could live in.

I agree

I usually greet everyone on my way to work. It is always a good way to start a day.

That is so true. It is amazing how an unexpected smile and "Hi" can make my day. It really takes so little.

Touching example Ryan, of the difference people can make with even a small gesture of kindness. I have been gifted at times with kindness in unexpected ways. Before "pay it forward" became such a catch phrase, my grandma, a poor farmer's wife and mother of too many children, always taught that all acts of kindness matter, regardless of their size, the effort involved, the time of day, or the space and place, as long as they come from your heart. Sounds like the hot guy at the car wash was a good man indeed. Thanks for sharing.

I was reading about the Golden Gate Bridge and the lore surrounding it. There have been many suicides off the bridge. Some of the attempts and some of the successful ones were discussed in the article. The one that touched me the most concerned the suicide of a young man who wrote a note which said in essence "I am walking to the bridge and if one person smiles at me while I walk, I will not jump off." So keep on greeting and smiling, you never know, your smile may be a life saver.
