There's a (computer) virus on the rampage that's particulary nasty. It's the W32/Klez virus. Unlike some e-mail viruses, you don't need to open attachments. Simply previewing messages in the preview pane will trigger it.

The solution, of course, is to make sure your virus protection software is up to date. This particular virus was well known (although mostly dormant) about six months ago so they all protect against it BUT ONLY IF YOU'RE UP TO DATE.

It's back now and it's been tweaked and it's bad. If you get e-mails from friends asking "why are you sending me this" chances are good you or someone you know are infected and don't know it. Go to your anti-virus vendor's website and see what they have to offer as advice.

This virus goes through your address book and sends mail from anyone (spoofing the "from" address) in your address book to everyone in your address book, propagating itself. So you might get e-mail apparently from HooBoy (for example) but it's really from some other computer that has Hooboy in its address book.

Play safe boys. I've had 20 e-mails just today carrying this charming little payload. (And McAffee has squashed every one of 'em.)

If you're getting weird looking e-mails, it may be the virus at work.

T'was Not !

>To quote Elmer Fudd: "Be afwaid! Be vewwwwwy vewwwy afwaid!"

Jeff from Ohio clarified that it was an e-mail and, as I suspected, not from me but possibly related to a computer used at an internet cafe on Saturday evening, sometime after Bad Boy's.

I would like to point out, once again, that in five years of using an Apple MacIntosh, I have yet to suffer any kind of computer-related virus.

Also, while I do not offer young, college-age males a discount for the opportunity to deflower them, I do offer a discounted rate to anyone, at any age, who is a proud owner of an Apple iMac or G3/G4 Power Mac.

RE: T'was Not !

Yes, most e-mail viruses are Windows-targeted. The authors go for "maximum exposure" so they go for the dominant computing platform.

The total number of Macs out there just isn't worth the effort. :+

For my three clients who avail themselves of the discount, including the highly paid, high class whore - pardon me - entertainment attorney in Marina del Rey, having an Apple Mac has often been absolutely worth the effort.

Well, at least that is what these three wise men have expressed to little old me.
