According to the Boston Globe:

"In his first legal response to charges that the Rev. Paul R. Shanley began molesting a Newton boy when he was 6 years old, Cardinal Bernard F. Law has asserted that 'negligence' by the boy and his parents contributed to the alleged abuse... "

According to the attorney for the victim and his parents, "There is no set of circumstances under which a 6-year-old child could be blamed for something like this," MacLeish said...

A local attorney who handles abuse cases stated, it is "..dumb beyond belief. It is a stupid argument to make when you know that Catholics are already angry at you." He added, "From the start, the archdiocese has been incredibly stupid in the way they have handled this crisis. And as hard as it was to do, they have managed to make things worse."

So, am I the only one outraged by this latest development?

Don't get me started - I may never shut up! There can be no doubt in your mind how I feel about this as I was the one who started the thread about Law, last week. As I said before, Law is more responsible for being the enabler and facilitator over the years. than the actual priests who did the preying (note the "e" - not an "a")

I had somehow missed this latest development. Thanks for the up-date.

Stupid is too weak a word to describe Law and his ilk. But I am at a loss for a better one. But I think it goes far deeper than stupidity. I think Law and his whole bevy of bastards, are so arrogant, and so out of touch with reality, stemming from years and years of adulation by their flock, that they really can't see the whole picture in any sort of realistic perspective.

They are doomed. The press are onto the story of the 21st century and they are not going to let go. Besides it sells papers and the profit motive alone will keep it afloat.

And as they topple one by one - I will be cheering louder than anyone.

They absolutely disgust me.

This undoubtedly is the idea of the lawyers handling the defense, rather than that of the Cardinal himself. He may not even have seen it. If the diocese has liability insurance to cover this type of suit or its defense, then the lawyers would be those chosen by the insurance company and the diocese and the Cardinal would have the contractual duty to cooperate with them in the defense. In any event, it is virtually certain that this represents the advice of the lawyers. Anyone for tort reform?

Merlin wants to blame it on the lawyers, the Church wants to blame it on homosexuals: meanwhile Cardinals Law and Egan live high on the hog. (That might explain the way they look!)

TB,

I certainly don't want to get you started again. But, on the other hand, I knew you'd appreciate this update.

I don't always agree with you. But on the matter of Carinal Law, we see eye-to-eye!

Disagreement is good for the sole. Some of the klutzs who post here can't understand the fact that many of the posts that get them goin' [so to speak] are posted for that exact purpose.

Nothing is ever black and white [oh God - here go the racial slurs again]........... there are so many wonderful shades of gray.

By the way - I love your site. Public nudity has always been a big turn on for me!

It's not bad for the soul, either.
