Nebraska Wrestler Gay Porn Scandal

There was an interesting little scandal back in August 2008,

about two young (straight) college wrestlers who posed

nude on a gay website and were dismissed from their

team at the University of Nebraska. Both men, Paul

Donahoe and Kenny Jordan went on to other colleges

and hopefully are doing well...

(I thought it was VERY interesting..a lot more drama than I

Had mixed feelings listening to the interviews - both wrestlers have complicated histories of incidents, and it is hard to see if the nude posing a Fratmen was the final straw (as the U. of N. portrays it) or an independent incident among others (as they seem to see it), but where they are singled out for punishment.

 

Nonetheless, it was good to hear their entire side of it, as well as the guarded comments of the University staff. I was, however, disturbed to see the apparently condoned gambling and winking at underage drinking that seems part of the comradarie of the wrestling coaching staff with their star players. Am I too suspicious to see this off-campus fraternizing as something that has a bit of semblance to cruising the players in the homes of the coaches??? The mind boggles to think that - these coaches who see these guys day in and out in wrestling gear, jocks, showers etc... may be also recruiting them for something not so Olympian in its goals. I just hope I am reading too much into the nuanced University defenses and the comments and accusations of the two players against the coaching staff.

 

Anyway I hope the two players somehow can put this behind them and finish out college next year successfully.

i too, think there is still a little bit more to this story that has not been told. These guys seem a little bit polished to have just done this once.

Over the years I've heard stories of athletic departments using student athletes in various ways to further their programs. One that I most often heard was sending athletes to the homes of prominent alumni for social events, where there were sometimes sexual expectations. It would be interesting if there were confirmations of these stories.

there is obviously a seriously smug attitude in the two wrestlers, especially in Kenny: "I took some nude pics, deal with it"....it's not that simple....they're representing the Nebraska team and were certainly told of the rules the members had to follow as part of that team...they're young, energetic, and probably did this for adventure as much as money....

 

I can definitely see the coaches bending the rules, too....very common at all schools as part of building a team "family" is to have social interaction and edgy fun...but the school was probably under intense pressure to can these guys because of the embarrassment factor...probably was NOT a last straw thing as none of the other infractions were public....and they were still on the team....the previous infractions were serious enough already

I think you are reading too much into it--even though I haven't seen the interview yet. I mean it's a nice fantasy for us gay guys, but I just can't imagine that in the majority of programs coaches are cruising their athletes. In this day and age if they were--I think we'd be hearing about it.

yes, you can subscribe legally, of course....however, "Cal" is not available for viewing at the site as of a minute ago...."Nash" was restored to the site after the scandal cooled a bit....

 

the site has, mostly, great-looking guys who usually stay silent and walk around a cool-looking house following the same formula: slowly undress, jack off to climax, go take a shower, jack off again to climax, smile for the camera

In this day and age, any Roman Catholic Priest who wrote letters like that to an altar boy or invited him to an unchaperoned poker party regardless of the stakes, would be looking for alternate employment. These are good looking bad boys who've had little in the way of appropriate role models in their coaches who are just a few years older than they are. Me thinks the whole wrestling program at Nebraska is in need of a good housecleansing. If you want AAU glory you have to play by their rules. If you want the adulation of we gays, it too is available. If you want both you're a glutton.

Whizz, this is what I meant earlier with a certain uneasiness with the way the coaching staff's relationship with the wrestlers was portrayed. That letter from the head coach to one of the wrestlers went way beyond "boundaries" in the professional world these days. In many work enviornments where adults interact with children, teens and - yes, even college students, such an expression as "I love you..." could end the teacher up in front of a board, or an employee before the Human Relations people in the office.

 

The excellent ESPN interview did not hide the alleged culpability of the wrestlers, but also pointed out some of the hypocrisy of the coaching staff too.
