Is this true? I got this email in one of those mass forwarded emails:

REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public next month.

REMINDER.... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls.

..... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

Even if the message is saved on your phone, you will be charged for the minutes to listen to it.

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222 .

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS.. It takes about 20 seconds.

Cell Phone numbers on Do Not Call Register

See FTC website: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt107.shtm

What Phone Numbers Can I Register?

Can I register my cell phone on the National Do Not Call Registry?

Yes, you may place your personal cell phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry. The registry has accepted cell phone numbers since it opened for registrations in June 2003. There is no deadline to register a home or cell phone number on the Registry.

You may have received an email telling you that your cell phone is about to be assaulted by telemarketing calls as a result of a new cell phone number database; however, that is not the case. FCC regulations prohibit telemarketers from using automated dialers to call cell phone numbers. Automated dialers are standard in the industry, so most telemarketers don’t call consumers on their cell phones without their consent

Thanks very much for the info. I just verified that my landline is still registered. I also learned that registration is now permanent due to an updated federal act in 2007. It takes less than two minutes to verify. Then I registered my cell phone number, and that was verfied within two minutes. All you have to do is enter your phone number and email address. Piece of cake. The most direct URL is:

All that being to the good, the fact is that I get tons of computer calls and I am on the do not call registry. I am starting to get them on my cell phone now as well. They didn't have these problems back in the smoke signal days.

I've gotten computer calls as well. And when I try to call back it just rings no answer.

I was getting a couple of "unknown number" calls that I never picked up on. Finally when I got sick of my phone ringing all the time, I answered. It was some scam artist trying to get me to reveal personal info while refusing to tell me who they were and what they needed this information for. I decided I was going to make it not worth their time to talk to me so I kept peppering them with questions. Then I kept the phone on and simply didn't say anything. After a few minutes of "Hello? Hello?" they gave up.

Haven't had a problem since.
