NY GMSMA Dissolving

Received a notice in the mail today from NYC's Gay Male S&M Activists... Due to a lack of guys who are interested in running the club, the board has shrunk down to a mere handful that doesn't feel capable of planning and executing programming any longer, so the organization is dissolving, as such, and putting its remaining assets into a foundation to run Folsom Street East. So that annual leather street fair will continue, but the organization won't. Sign of the times??

Interestingly, you would never know this from visiting their website… at least it has not been updated to reflect this recent development. While I patronize the NYC market, I don’t live in NYC. Consequently, I have never had any direct contact with this organization. Still, its existence was always in the back of my mind as they always seemed to have interesting “educational” programs and events. The fact that they did not meet during the summer months, which is when it would be most advantageous for me to attend, was a further deterrent.

 

So I guess it is simply a sign of the times and a further indication that the S&M scene in NYC is in a state of decay. As for BDSM escorts, while some of the current guys working it in the City have received some good press here, I personally have not gotten much favorable feedback from individuals who live in the City and have hired these guys. The possible reason… They know what was available in the past and while the newer guys are competent… they are not special enough to erase memories of past specialists.

GMSMA is dsisolving because people do not see a reason to go and join. At one time it was great way to meet people with the same interests; now the internet is preferred.
