I have been searching the Internet for a totally free reverse landline/cellphone number lookup. Every site I've checked looks up the number, teases you with available info, and thens wants a fee or membership to give you the info.

Does anyone know of a totally free site on which you can trace a landline or cellphone number?

nope

there is none. You have to pay. Some sites let's say put it in a nice way doesn't give you a correct information and doesn't care. Funny thing is your information to access that site is going to be used for others to look you up if someone is looking for you. Don't waste your money and do not give out your private information. I can't think of a good word of describing it but you not only pay money but you are giving away your private information for them to share. They are hard to locate by law enforcement agencies because some of them operate illegally or without license. Thanks.

What format do you put the number in google?

just use the old fashioned hyphens, not the currently hip "dot" way ex. 212-555-1212 not this way: 212.555.1212

I started to write that the best way to do the search is just the numbers themselves, separated by spaces (e.g. 917 204 0101). To illustrate, I did a google search my way and yours and lo, yours is much better. Same good hits, but not interspersed with race results, golf stats, part numbers, etc.

Slater is right on the mark again ...

But I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that http://www.whitepages.com does seem to provide

a free reverse lookup for listed phone numbers.

It found my home, my home modem numbers, but surprisinglly didn't do very well on

my work phone number, which it displayed as being in the oakland estuary instead of

in Berkeley.
