Last night there was an item on the NBC Nightly news (I think) on Fleet Week in NYC. I hear that these are great weeks for meeting willing guys. How does one find out ahead of time where these weeks will be happening? Do any of you have stories about any cities where you may have benefitted from it? I think Karl-G had something about this in Fort Lauderdale a few years ago ...

Fleet Weeks

There appear to be "Fleet Weeks" annually in New York (this year's is the 22nd annual), Fort Lauderdale, San Francisco, and San Diego. There may be others. They are the same week every year (end of April for Fort Lauderdale, last week in May for New York, October for San Francisco, etc.), so you could plan a year ahead and visit all four. New York and San Francisco have many websites and ads and appear happy to have extra tourists. The schedule of activities is posted months in advance on the internet - you can look up the websites and get all the details. Just google "fleet week."

They are great fun for many reasons. It is interesting to watch the boats arrive, and you can visit and tour the ships. After several years of no tours because of security fears, in Fort Lauderdale this year, the boats were all open for us, although you did have to register in advance.

The sailors, all thousands of them, enjoy the shore leave and the many activities planned for them. They play charity baseball games, visit hospitals, party, and walk all over to see the big cities. My own experiences with the sailors are somewhat more personal, but I have certainly enjoyed the boys each year. They are young, friendly, and sweet, and if you are nice to them, they certainly reciprocate.

I am in awe of people just being able to pick up guys like this--I am an overweight bear--and just don't really find anyone interested--esp young guys--sigh. Hope you have fun!!!!

One of my friends is overweight but very nice looking and always well-dressed. He told me yestereday that that he has regularly met up with guys in uniform. They always accept his invitations to nice meals and drinks and he seems to have had great experiences with them - so, go figure!

A straight friend always enjoyed Fleet Week

A former co-worker of mine was in the Navy and came to NYC during Fleet Week. He's wear his uniform whites and hang out in gay bars. I have no doubt this guy is 100% straight, although very open minded. He did this because of all the free drinks that he got.
