Since I'm a total nerd and enjoy technology to no end, if there is anyone thinking about getting MobileMe should do it with no question! Put your shoes on at this very moment and head out to the Apple Store. Wow! I finished setting mine up the other day and I can't tell you how convenient it is to make contact and calendar changes on your phone to have it synced up immediately on your laptop and iTunes backup files! 360 degree data protection which I'm all about.

I recently made the move from a lifetime PC user to a MacBook and I'm just dazzled by all the nifty gadgets, applications and complete integration that it offers. Besides not knowing where most things are or how to completely navigate through some of the menus which I'm not accustomed too, I can't believe I waited this long to become and Apple user and fan. While I miss some of the features that the Vista OS provided, the MacBook machine is pretty good, light and is completely silent which is great!

So, check out MobileMe if you're an organization nerd like me and always need to have updated information not now but yesterday. ;)

... yeah, I sounded like a complete nerd - I know.

I agree. I was a total PC person up until 14 months ago. I now have an iMac, a MacBook, an iPhone, an AppleTV, Airport Extreme Base station with Time Machine, Airport Express and MobileMe for synching. It's all amazing !!!

Hell! You and I need to keep in touch because I'm considering the Time Machine and a few other things to integrate into this MacBook. A friend of mine has the AppleTV and has had many good things to say about it. What's your thoughts on it?

Hehe! That's what Looped is for on the iPhone. Allows approved users to see where I am around the world. It's not the most accurate application that Apple has released through the iTunes distribution network but it will locate someone within a few blocks of their actual location. I find Looped comforting because in the event of an emergency, I can be located by emergency services. I'm all about additional safety though the application can be scary because it always puts you on the GPS grid unless you disable the location finder but that defeats the purpose of the application.

So with this new gizmo have you been able to figure out a way we can get together while you are in NYC?

First of all Time Machine is the easiest back up solution I've ever used. It just happens in the background over the Wi-Fi in my house for my MacBook and via cable for my iMac. I can back up both systems on the 1TB Time Machine. It's easy to go back in time to find the file that you erased accidentally and since you can back up multiple systems on one device it saves equipment.

The AppleTV is amazing. I was never a movie renter and now I rent movies all the time via iTunes right from the AppleTV in High Definition. As soon as it downloads you have 30 days to watch it and then when you start watching it you have 24 hours to finish it in case you can't finish it in one sitting.

i also synch my iTunes playlists to my AppleTV and have now digitized all 5000 of my CD's and I can now listen to my music in any room in the house with "remote" on my iPhone where I can tell iTunes to turn on speakers connected to my AppleTV or speakers connected to my Airport Express. So my AppleTV is now my stereo database and that is what plays when I want to listen to music.

I also love SiriusXM satellite radio. I play it at home sometimes in my Foxfire browser. Then I use an application on my iMac called Airfoil that allows me to select another Apple networked device in my house to play the music from the Foxfile browser that is signed on to SiriusXM Satellite radio. So I can now play BPM or SiriusLeft through my stereo speakers in my living room or through my speakers connected to my Airport Express in my bedroom.

I also now download a lot of free High Definition Podcasts and watch them on my TV. I haven't downloaded or purchased many TV shows, but I did buy Damages this year in HD since I don't get FX in HD. So I'll be watching that series this summer when there is nothing else to watch on TV.

And in case you are wondering, I don't work for Apple and this is not a paid advertisement for Apple. I'm just a VERY satisfied customer who is amazed !!!

transfers....

A question for Mac users (as I have been, always):

I'm about to purchase a new laptop. Previously, I had the store transfer everything from the old one to the new one -- for a fee. But I hear this is a relatively simple process, a matter of plugging in a "transfer cable," performaning a few tasks and then letting technology do the rest.

Accurate?

Where can I find informaiton about this?

Just be careful, if you get the 13" MacBook, it won't have a firewire connection port. But the bigger MacBooks will have a firewire port. There is a way to do it over your Wi-Fi from computer to computer or via network cable if you have a local network at home too.

Well allow me to take you under my wing and we can discover all these new bits of technology together. I have been glued to the Apple site looking at all sorts of new toys and dreams of what I can incorporate into my iPhone and MacBook to really make it work for my business. The MobileMe is an absolute dream!

I'm a tech freak! Can't help it! MUST HAVE!

I'm about to become wet in my pants hearing all this gadget talk!! I'm very interested in the Apple TV and the wireless speaker system that is available which works through the Wi-Fi network. I also love how I can control my iTunes through the iPhone and which all my remotes worked as well as this does. I can be in any room or even down the hall and have perfect reception to control my tunes.

Why did I wait this long to make the switch!?

Romann I guess as a Newbie and the site change you haven't been told that the "Tekke Stuff" discussions have always been in the DADDYS FORUM.

Unless DADDY and the Tekke's have decided to hang in the LOUNGE

The Lounge is a place for General Discussion and has a long history of discussions regarding the latest gadgets: be they computers, DVRs, DVDs, cell phones, etc. So Romann's choice of forums to discuss MobileMe seems appropriate to me. Daddy's forum is for technical questions, I don't see that anyone really has a technical question they need answered here.

I would like to say that his process is very easy but I have had hard time getting this to happen especially if you're moving from a PC to a Mac of any type. When I was purchasing my Mac at the Apple store I was told that it was that simple but when push came to shove, that wasn't the case and instead, it involves much more than that. Also, the stores at one time would do this with no service fee applied but now they are charging 60.00 USD for it. So, I had to think of more creative ways of transferring data from my PC iTunes to the Mac by giving it authorization rights in which the Mac was uploaded everything stored on my iPhone.

Your best bet is to contact Apple care which is what I did and go through that headache which isn't fun. I feel for you!
