RE: São Paulo - Other Practical Info Bus from Guaruhlos to Praca de Republica

The executive bus goes from Guaruhlos to Praca de Republica every half hour or so for about eight dollars. Praca de Republica is downtown with a subway station and taxis nearby. It is easy to walk to the Sao Paulo Hilton which often offers a special rate of about $69 a night.

The Praca da Republica terminus is also convenient to the various hotels on Av. Vieira de Carvalho, half-a-block away.

There are also Airport Service buses from GRU to the Av. Paulista hotels (it makes a circuit of all the major ones) and to Congonhas (CGH) airport for domestic connections. Allow lots of time for this last one, because if traffic is bad you could miss a tight connection.

The bus is modern, comfortable and air-conditioned and MUCH cheaper than a taxi from Guarulhos, which is a long way from the city center, Av. Paulista and Congonhas.

For those staying at the Residencia Alameda this apartment hotel is two blocks east of the Hotel Renaissance Sao Paulo. The airport bus will stop at the Renaissance Hotel (when I took the bus last March the driver did not recognize the location of the Residencia Alameda). I would suggest exiting at the Renaissance and walk down Alameda (which is the street the SP Renaissance is located on) heading toward the back of the hotel and proceed about two blocks. The Residencia Alameda is right on the corner. The area is quite nice and will be a pleasant walk after a long journey.

Compliments of Foders Guide regarding Sao Paulo:

"Between the Airport and Town"

By Bus

EMTU executivo buses (tel. 011/945-2505), fancy green-stripe vehicles, shuttle between Cumbica and Congonhas, and also link the international airport with the Tietê bus terminal and the downtown Praça da República. The bus to São Paulo costs about $5.50 and runs every half hour to an hour from around 6 AM to 11 PM or midnight, depending on the departure point. Municipal buses, with "CMTC" painted on the sides, stop at the airport and go downtown by various routes, such as via Avenida Paulista to the Praça da Sé and Tietê bus station.

By Taxi

The sleek blue and white, air-conditioned Guarucoop radio taxis (tel. 011/940-7070) will convey you from Cumbica to downtown for around $40; regular, or comum, taxis, charge the same amount from this airport. The radio taxi fare from Congonhas to downtown is around $18, and around $12 in a regular taxi.
