I can't believe it! First they take out my Hunter. Now they take out my Gabriel. If they take out my John and his beautiful chest I'm through the with the show. Especially they keep a lazy good for nothing like Sean on there (who also has a pretty nice body)and that snake in the grass Rob (who just thinks he has a beautiful body).

Can someone, ANYONE, explain the appeal of the show to me?

I've *tried* to watch it, every season. It's a topic of discussion everywhere you go, such that you feel like a social outcast if you're not "up" on it. But watching it always seems like watching paint dry to me.

Obviously I just don't get it. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?

Deej,

Chug a six pack. It will make so much more sense then.

(I don't get it either.)

Absolutely sweet fuck all!

And "Big Brother" was even worse.

Gabriel is a nice guy. He's handsome as all get-out. And boy, what I wouldn't give for him to be my husband. But this man doesn't have the brains of an ice cube. What in the hell could he have possibly been thinking? All he had to do was stick with the program, and he could easily have won the million. He was part of a natural majority (times two), and could have easily made it to the end. I mean, you can never tell who's going to be left standing at the end, but I think you have to be pretty dense to be the first person booted out of your tribe, especially when you were with a group of people who liked you. And John is even dumber. He played right into Rob and Sean's hands, and he's probably the next to go. Calling himself the leader at tribal council? How stupid can one be? That'll be the lightning rod for votes the next time around.

Nope. John has an alliance with the other three Rotu members and they're not going to vote out John to keep Sean Sharpton or Rob Buttofuco. I suspect that since John is a homo, he's also a liberal which means he has a bunch of black guilt and that will keep him from voting out Sean next. Please note that he approached Sean to tell him of their plans and not Rob or Vicepia. Sean has been openly hostile to Rotu so strategically it didn't make sense that he picked Sean. I vote "black guilt".

This season is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than Africa.

Episodically yours,

It could have had something to do with Rob’s “big old queer” remark. He’s about the most ignorant (but pretty when he smiles) specimen they’ve had to date. Vicepia is nothing and neither of the men would listen to her, so that really only left Sean to approach.

I still think it was a dumb move though. John may have his alliance lined up, but the merge is looming and he should have approached it as a big reunion of the original Rotu love-tribe. Now he has some explaining to do about why they would eliminate a much beloved tribe member and save a jerk like Sean or Rob. It makes the four-person alliance very obvious and pretty much forces the three Rotu members in the other tribe to align with whomever is left standing.

I do agree this season is much better than Africa and, as always, you just never know what they are going to do.

HALLE -FREAKIN-LUJAH at last somebody has the common sense to say why do x million people watch this CRAP i watched a few of the 1st season and my BF who loves the show just couldn't understand why i hated it i suppose the reason why it could be so successful is that people will watch people stab each other in the back and take sides a microcosm of life as it were and there is the fact that if the contestants look good then people will switch on ,i just hope it goes the same way as Who wants to be a Millionaire et al and we get bak to some decent programming hell i might as well just watch HBO

You either get it or you don’t. I know that you couldn’t PAY me to sit through an opera, but many people enjoy all the screaming. I just don’t get it.

It’s not worth “trying” to watch because if you aren’t interested in the dynamics and power plays of the individuals, you aren’t ever going to enjoy it. It helps if you watch it from the beginning so that you begin to “know” the contestants and find someone to love and someone to hate. (It’s like sports for gay guys who hate sports.)

The contests themselves aren’t that interesting, and particularly in this season, the actual ‘surviving the elements’ aspect is not important. It’s all about surviving among the human animals.

It’s also very unpredictable and I enjoy that immensely.

That's a fair enough statement, and I agree completely.

You can count me in with the crowd that enjoys opera. What's not to like about a play with plenty of sex & violence (most opera is, after all, about the town slut :9 ) with great music & fabulous costumes?

To each his own. This forum is proof enough of that. We've got guys that like twinks, guys that prefer older escorts, and everything in between. I was just hoping someone could 'splain why Survivor is such a hot topic of discussion EVERYWHERE.

RE: Survivor-standing around the water cooler

deej-i know what u are saying but heres my little go at answering your conundrum.

programmes like Survivor,Big Brother et al are an attempt by increasingly desperate networks to create "water cooler"tv,basically no matter where u are in your office, coffee shop, bar, precinct house wherever it becomes a topic of conversation,it had so much hype when CBS first started showing and it was a huge success that it quickly became THE thing to talk about NBC did the same sorta thing with "must see thursday"basically it gets people talking and if you arent one of the people on the inside then you feel like an outsider which most of us do not want to be (although most of us here probably know what being an outsider is anyway !)

The greatest success in creating a franchise tv show, movie etc is word of mouth and this is exactly what we are seeing, remember Millionaire back in 1999-2000 now its on the verge of being yanked because the bubble has burst sooner or later this will happen to Survivor the reason i believe it was such a huge success was it was original and it didnt run 52 weeks a year but now we have it through a whole season and the public will quickly tire, also the networks arent stupid they know that the gay population has a lot more disposable income to spend and putting on good looking buff guys will get the gay guys tuning in no matter how vacuous(sp)it might be they are still tuning in and seeing those sponsors messages .

Its just part of the zeitgeist that will pass eventually and the way i see it is its better to be an original and choose what you read, watch, listen to because of what YOU want rather than be one of the sheep that follow the crowd.

RE: Survivor-standing around the water cooler

Oh, puh-lease. I hope you were just suggesting to deej that he be “original” and not a “sheep that follows the crowd.” Otherwise, that is one of the more condescending and elitist things I’ve read around here in a long time.

Just because the show is interesting enough that many people want to discuss it, doesn’t mean that all us poor low-brow people with our horribly vulgar tastes and sensibilities are trying to be part of an “in” crowd. It might just mean that it’s an entertaining show that you happen to have no interest in.

As someone who actually LIKES the show, let me try to explain. It is full of twists and turns and you NEVER know what these people are going to do. They strategize, manipulate and play mind-games with one another. You see enough of them to form opinions that make you root for or against certain individuals. Granted you only see what the producers choose to show you, but it’s interesting how different people react to the same thing. In the first season, a very good friend of mine loved Richard Hatch. I thought he was evil incarnate. Same show – two very different reactions.

It’s just a very interesting competition, filled with diverse people who are out to win a million bucks. If you aren’t able to observe and empathize with them a little, if you don’t find the power plays interesting, it’s never going to be your cup of tea.

I like the show as well. I dream of someday a survivor conking another survivor over the head with that damn immunity idol.:7

Needless to say, I was very unhappy when they voted out my Gabriel. He is luscious, and I will miss seeing his cute smile and beautiful bod week after week! I hope to see him in other things soon! He is the best, sweet and beautiful; I'd love to marry this guy.

By the way - this Survivor is actually going up in the rating - and is 10% higher than Africa I read. It's a great show - can't knock a show for performance with 20+ million viewers (despite tough competition) - and it's tons of fun. May not be for everyone, but 20+ mill is a lot.

As one who enjoys the show. I'll tell you why. To put it simply I love people who makes asses of themselves on national TV. Can you imagine coming home and watching with all your friends and relatives around you, with local coverage also ( Tammy is from my local area and every week there is a party at some place the local tv station is covering ).

Rob might make the merge but I hope not... talk about your homophobic, rednecks that should be the poster child for the Idiot's Guide to Being an Asshole!

Sean is a reverse racist.. Every action the tribes take, according to him is racist. Nice body Sean, but shut it. It doesn't belong there. Sean should be the poster child for the Idiot's Guide to being Lazy.

John is sometimes a bit overbearing, but He is the only one on Rotu now that seems to know that this is a game, and is playing it like one. Playing it smart. He's now got a 4 person majority, with Rob, Tammy and Zoe. He'll make it to the unification no problem.

The one thing about this show is I can't wait for the reunion show already there will be flaming arrows pointed every which way. Hunter should have gone to the top three and with Rob's comments and Hunters on his way out. It might be a Jerry Springer type show...

I saw Gabriel on the morning news show the next morning - what a cutie! His luxury item was a teddy bear - named "Jimmy" - how adorable this guy is. He was very funny, great smile and personality, real charmer, and oh so cute. the newswoman said she wished she had a younger sister for him - he said he wished she did too - boy would I love to be that younger sister.... one can always hope he'd consider us all his sisters, he is so adorable!!!! I wish there were a way to get in touch with him, I'd pay almost anything if he were to escort....

I know that Rob from Boston is an asshole - but God how I'd love to lick his beautiful chest! He seems to be playing more a part, he can't be that bad .. he's very funny. Great bod. Also thought gabe was really hot, sweet kid, sorry he's already out!
