OK, all this talk of Montreal has prompted me to go there over my Easter break from school. I saw TY stayed at the Gouvenour...how much was it?

Any one else with some suggestions on places to stay? I prefer a hotel as I don't want to draw a lot of attention as one can do in a B&B...but I am not completely opposed to a B&B as long as they are cool with men coming and going...:)

I also prefer my own bath...I don't like shared baths anymore...and I don;t need to drop a mint...but not oppsoed to spending a few bucks for a nicer place...

I would also like to be in the middle of all the action....I don't want to have to take subways...any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks, gents.

$129 CAD about $ 85 US plus Taxes adds another $ 20 probably. You can get the Fed part back if you file for it. No big deal -- get a form at the hotel, when you get home fill it out, attach your receipt and mail it.

The Gouvenour is your best bet for your requirements. Reservations are at 888-910-1111.

It is a regular decent grade hotel, and you can walk to everything that you need to get to. The are accustomed to the comings and goings of the boys, and they are not alarmed by it or concerned with it. They are a little defensive about "street trade", but regular dancers from Stock and Campus come and go all day and all night.

I have also stayed at the Crown Plaza on Rue Sherbrooke. It is cool also, but about a four block walk from Rue.Ste. Catherine.

I think the Auberge Cosy is great--friendly, gay, personable, and the two owners are hot boyfriends. Cheaper than the Gouvernour. It';s very near Campus, and if you like Nirvana, Taboo or Adonis, it's closer to them.

I've said it before, Ruta Baggage is a great, very affordable, very comfortable guest house right in the ghetto. They don't mind guests with turnstiles on their doors.

I had my last honey moon in Montreal. This is a great place. One thing to do is call the one's with toll free numbers and asks to view their web sites, if they have them, and describe the rooms for you. I've stayed in private rental homes/condos in Provincetown everytime I have gone but these year was going to do the gay guesthouse thing and this has worked out well. I also discuss with them their policy about guests (without stating my guests may be clients) and I also request that they describe the rooms. Their response to my questioning gives me a good feel for what kind of customer service I may expect.

As for Montreal, the bus service -- especially the subway -- is good, bike rentals if you are up for the exercise are a great way to explore the city, especially the old town, and bring comfortable shoes. A good french phrase translation dictionary will be invaluable or brush up on the high school french.

Have a FABULOUS time (did you know that's "W"'s fav word?) .... :7

The Ruta Bagage is beautiful. Are there private baths now? The last time I stayed there (1996?), there were only three guest rooms (and two straight couples had the other two), and there was only one shared bath. I believe the owners were considering buying the house next door and expanding....

You might check out the Hotel Dorion. It's above the Club Taboo. The rooms are adequate, very inexpensive and have their own bath. So you won't hear the music from Taboo, ask for a room on the second floor (it's actually the third floor).

I would suggest calling the toll free number and ask to become a Club des Gouverneurs member. It's like Marriott Rewards and other frequent guest programs. It's free. I find I tend to get the best rates, especially during busy times, and when I check in at any regular rate I'm given two $5.00 coupons that can be used in the bar or restaurant

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the McGill dorms. Cheap, central.

If I may be allowed to wax nostalgic for one brief moment, a favorite bar from days of yore was this total dive called La Fiesta Tropicale, notable chiefly for the greasy rope, stage front, from which "dancers" would launch themselves audienceward in athletically provocative positions. Laughable now, but then, four bottles into a case of Labatt's Blue, it seemed like big talent.

I was new to the scene, and in one moment of exhilaration bit -- and rather too hard -- the nipple of an until then friendly young dancer. I can still see the look of shock on his face. To his everlasting credit, he didn't beat the shit out of me. Rather, he told me that only a woman had ever misbehaved in such a fashion with him, and that I was NOT to do THAT again.

Oui, mon mec.

I highly recommend La Concergerie guest house. Run by a gay couple with many gay guests. You'll have no trouble "coming and going." It's a beautifully restored townhouse with attractive rooms. There's a whirlpool (good place to chat with the other guys), a back garden and a rooftop deck. Well located, good rates. See listing in Inn Places. This is one of the best gay friendly B and B's I've visited.
