We recently found that, even tho we had no profiles and our email addresses did not contain the naughty "e" word, the AOL nazis (where's TruthTeller? The word "nazi" usually gives him a hardon) were bouncing our emails...in both directions. We'd been receiving phone calls asking why we hadn't been replying to emails (the answer was that we had never seen them), so we switched last week to yahoo. But now we've decided that yahoo sucks (but they scrape teeth) so we just switched to hotmail...now that's a gay-friendly sounding name.

Was there any indication of this independent of the phone calls you recieved?

 

How do you think they zeroed in given no use of the e-word?

 

Do you think you were caught up in a general AOL sweep or the target of a community-minded morals vigilante who may have been monitoring chat rooms?

 

In the end it makes no difference to you, but there are many many escorts still clinging to AOL for their SOLE comunications and it might help motivate them to adopt a parallel online email account if AOL has broadened its campaign. (I don't understand their reluctance to do so under any circumstance. )

HooBoy has been saying that for as long as I can remember. Also if you don't get a response from an escort who has an AOL e-mail address, please try to reach out to him by phone so that you can let him know that there may be a problem with his AOL account.

Actually, I'm still not sure what was happening. If we'd been targeted, wouldn't they have just deleted our accounts? Also, some emails got bounced but not all...it seemed random. I just tested my old AOL account by sending an email from my hotmail account & there was no problem. So...I have no answer. I do know, though, that I don't want to take the risk of losing any emails in the future for whatever reason, so a separate non-AOL address makes sense. You're right, all escorts should have a backup address if they're on AOL.

 

After a few days of having a hotmail account, I now know why so many people are reluctant to give up AOL...for email, it's much easier to use. But as Hooboy has been advising for so long...it makes sense to keep AOL for other "stuff" and have a hotmail/yahoo/etc account for work mail.

I had a couple of people tell me that they had sent me e-mails that were bounced back, but went through when they tried again. So, I don't know what's up.

 

I did get a notice from AOL a couple of months back informing me that I was in violation of the TOS rules...blah, blah. I just took the word "escort" out of my profile.

 

I'm going to start using my hotmail acct. from now on.

I think you will be happy with Hotmail. Ever since I started using Hotmail I have never had any problems, but again I have never had any problems w/ AOL and my screen name is adamescortlv... Soon I will cancel this account since it is no longer used. My 2 Cents.
