Hey Guys,

Most of you know already the status of our pal Jason. Well I have talk to him several times and he is doing OK.:) I got him to set up a Paypal account so anyone that wanted to help could just transfer money right into his account. If you have never used Paypal it is so easy and very reliable. You don't have to worry about someone getting your CC info. (I have been using them since they came out)

All you have to do is go to http://www.paypal.com Sign-up and you will send the money to jasonreardone@aol.com that is his username and he gets a email from you letting him know who sent him money.

I have heard alot of guys saying how they would like to help and in my heart I hope your true. I don't feel like anybody should suffer and it makes me happy to lend a hand.

If you have any questions please email me and I will be happy to assist you in anything.

Tampa also made a good comment about that this issue for Jason isn't going to just go away in a few days. So, as he recommend and I totally agree it would be good to send smaller amount reacurring.

Thanks for everything you guys!

Love,

Adam

XOXO

Can somebody tell a dyumb in a discreet way what is up? I always thought Jason was great and would love to help. Also, is there any way to get it to him without Paypal ?

Sorry, sorry, sorry--not only have I not been reading the board enough lately, now I can't spell.

But still, any alternate to Paypal? If I have to wait until my credit cards to work again, Jason'll be getting Social Security and so will I.

How about Western Union? You'd need to email him and set it up, but I'm sure he'd really appreciate it...I know I do. :)

Never,

PayPal gives you the option of having the funds withdrawn directly from a bank account. It takes a couple of days to set up, but it should achieve what you are looking for.

I won't go through all the details. But, here's a quick summary:

1) You "register" your bank account with PayPal.

2) PayPal makes a few very small (less than a dollar) deposits into your account.

3) You check with your bank (either online or by phone) to get the exact amounts of these deposits.

4) You report these amounts to PayPal.

If the amounts you report match that actual deposits made by PayPal, you become "validated." The theory is that only you could have this information.

Once you're "validated," you can send funds directly from your bank account -- there's a limit of $1000 per transaction.

I'm in the middle of all of this right now. Will report back if I have any problems.

PayPal payment options

An addendum:

Even if you have working credit cards, the "deduct-from-my-bank-account" payment option may be preferable.

PayPal will report any contributions to Jason as a "cash advance," not a credit card purchase.

Depending on the terms of your card, "cash advances" may incur higher interest rates. And there's often a separate limit for cash advances that's considerably lower than your overall credit limit.

When you do a "deduct from my account" transaction your credit card isn't actually used, I think. Your card was only used to establish identity when you set up the account. The rest is a direct bank-to-bank transfer.

PayPal is WAY cool. The recipient never receives your credit card number or your bank account information, no matter how you send the money. They receive an e-mail (which you compose) but that's about it. The money just shows up in their account.

For the nerds out there, there's a Palm Pilot application that hooks up with PayPal. Couldn't make it to the ATM to get cash before that power lunch? Borrow 20 bucks from your co-worker and beam it to his Palm Pilot as a PayPal transaction.

It's cheap. It's easy. And it's (almost) free. What's not to like?

(It's not free for the recipient who bears service charges that are actually lower than establishing a full-blown merchant account would be.)

Just do it.

I've been using PayPal for a long time, because I do a lot of Ebay auctions. When you use PayPal to send someone money, just choose the selection that says for "service" rather than for "quasi-cash". That way, you won't be charged the cash advance interest rate. When I was initially setting up to send money to Jason, I chose the "quasi-cash" option, and a warning screen indicated my bank might charge me a higher rate, so I chose the edit option and changed it to "service". Hope that helps.

I just wanted everyone to know that I have had a couple really great days this week and I have no doubt that you have played a part by keeping my spirits up. In one of my posts long ago I wrote about my view on certain appointments/clients. How I viewed my time with them as an opportunity to influence their life and how I tried to view each encounter the same way in order to keep things in perspective and make every moment count in a positive way. You all have helped realize that effort by your words here, thank you. <jr>
