Hoo,

I have always favoured an open message board, but I think things are beginning to slip out of control. A small but vocal minority of posters now seems to have nothing better to do than bait each other and fling insults. This is even beginning to slip into the Escorts Travel section which had here-to-fore been kept neutral and clear of this kind of stuff. I don't feel the need to point any fingers as I am sure those responsible can recognize themselves.

I would like to suggest that if this does not cease, the message board be closed down for a week, with no new postings accepted and cued during this period, to give people a chance to cool down and stop reinforcing the stimulus to respond to juvenile jabs with even more juvenile ripostes. We are currently involved in a race for the bottom (no, not *that* kind of bottom).

I am not suggesting a permanent closure as I think this part of the site can and has played a valuable service to us all. If this is tried and doesn't work, I have no alternative to suggest. I would then have to either continue to participate in the hope that this trend dies out on its own, or just limit myself to the reviews.

I am, of course, also not suggesting you do this on my sole recommendation, and would welcome the views of other posters on the matter.

You’re basically suggesting a grown up version of a “time out” session. I hardly think it is necessary to send a bunch of adults to a corner until we learn to behave. For as long as I’ve been lurking and then participating, it has been one feeding frenzy or hissy fit after another, and all the while, intelligent and witty threads continue. The frenzy eventually dies down and is quickly replaced with something else.

In just the last few months, we’ve had the FFF "stalking" scandal, the RM/NG fiasco, the Craig’s-a-made-up-psycho affair, and now the Ethan blitz. What makes this last one any more threatening than those that have gone before?

The sky is not falling. Some people will be turned off and some people will be turned on. If nothing else…this place never stays dull for long.

in all fairness, there were more participants than just me.

you may find me obnoxious, but you can never claim that i've hurled racial/ethnic epithets.

One word coms to mind with this suggestion, ET:

Overreaction

If you have a problem with Ethan's posts, why do you read them? I have yet to read one single post that explains in a logical or intelligent manner WHY people read posts they KNOW they don't want to read them and then bitch about reading them. When the inital post comes up, you can see who has responded to it. Why do you put yourself through it? It is mind boggling indeed.

Just don't respond to the heated debates or immature individuals on here. While it may be tempting...don't......it simply feeds and gives attention to those who don't seem to want to engage in intelligent or witty repartee...but would rather insult and make fun of others...or just vent......

I get a good laugh myself out of some of the incredibly childish insults or responses on this board....I often wonder who these guys are....the odd thing is....there's a pretty good chance that those who I am talking about do not even recognize themselves when they do it....afterall, no one wants to think of themselves as childish or immature.....but a word of advice we can all be reminded of....email and msg boards have the danger of being flamed with emotion when you spout off your msg without stepping back from the emotion and just waiting for a reasonable period before responding....

then again....simply don't respond to those who irritate you....

I make it my own policy to not respond more than 3 or 4 times to a thread just because I don't want to beat a dead horse on the same subject...some just like to see themselves write and speak on line I guess...regardless of whether or not they are contributing something beneficial to the thread.

Actually, I find you equal parts obnoxious and interesting. You’ve gone overboard this last week by my standards, but that’s not for me to say. Whatever you are trying to get from participating in this board is no less valid than what I’m trying to get – just very different. (Since we never know anyone’s true motives…that is an assumption on my part.)

You are correct that there were many participants in the blitz -- you were just particularly prolific. I guess by responding I am becoming part of it, but who cares? I don’t have any real issues with the things you post, nor do I have any problem with the people who try to get you to shut up.

Many people try to make this place be a certain way. (Whatever makes them happy I suppose.) I just try to sit back and read what I want, participate when I want, and not take the whole thing too seriously. After all, it’s really just a substitute for watching TV.

What makes you think I am complaining about Ethan's posts?

I think that when these disputes spill over into the Escort Travels section, we have reached a new low. Obviously the situation doesn't bother you. It bothers some people though. My proposed solution may not be the best, but the solution you expressed to BG in another thread seems to be to change the participants on the message board or their natures. This hardly strikes me as realistic.

On a personal note, however, I have never been able to understand one particular reaction when someone claims that something bothers him. It's essentially "well it doesn't bother me so get over it". Why would whether it bothers you or not be at all relevant? Now if you actually preferred the situation that person was objecting to, that might be a valid point. But to simply claim that your level of tolerance is higher and therefore the complainant's complaint can be dismissed strikes me as a bit off the wall. Perhaps I am misunderstanding your position, but that's how it's coming across to me.

Feel free to comment or elaborate as the logic involved really mystifies me. I have always found you to be a sensible poster and so am looking forward to any enlightenment you can offer.

I think you have misunderstood me. Simply put, I am not willing to put myself through unnecessary BS. Why waste the time and energy on a post or poster you don't want to deal with? Move on. It's not about having a higher level of tolerance, it's about what you're willing to put up with. You can only be the victim as long as you accept the victimization.

Well this is entirely true. I normally try to avoid the bun fests (at least on this site), and I avoid the threads to have "flamefest" as unspoken subtitles, but when I innocently enter a thread that subsequently gets hijacked by the "potty mouths", I don't know automatically that any given new post isn't going to singe the back of my neck.

OK, I'm exagerating. I'm not that sensitive. But it is rather unpleasant and oh so tedious. You sometimes get the feeling some of these posters wouldn't recognize biting repartee if it chewed their leg off. :-)

Ack, it's back. Someone is definitely toying with me and will pay for this if I have to anonymously order a ton of sloppily packaged maple syrup to be delivered to their front door. x(

Us Canucks can be viscious when we are riled. We are not to be trifled with. ;-)

Pretty good points DC.

I agree, if someone irritates you, you can just skip over it.

However, I think the level some people go to is absurd. I think a lot of folks just done read/post as much due to due to the crap that one needs to sort through. At the far end of possibilities, fewer hits to this site, with negative impact on advertising.

BoN,

ROFLMAO!! I can't believe you of all people are talking about moving on, not needing unnecessary BS, and no longer playing the "victim" role. Does that mean you're going to quit staking Nick or Kirk? ;-)

I personally believe ET makes a good point. It's something I've also considered suggesting because I, too, believe things are getting out of hand.

I don't post often and will probably come here less often if things continue the way they are. I'll just stick to the reviews and say to hell to with the message center. I really used to enjoy the message center but the past few weeks it's only been getting worse. x(

What this bulletin board software lacks is a "kill file" function. Even the most basic Usenet clients have kill files. Since this place is unmoderated, de facto, it would be great to block all postings of just a few individuals as well as any threads replying to their daily ranting & raving.
