Pin a "how-to" for posting links to rentboy ads?

Just about every day someone on the board either asks how to post a direct link to an escort's rentboy ad or more often posts a link that doesn't work as he expected. It'd be great if the problem were either fixed on the rentboy side (version 5.0? Bueller? Anyone?) or the poster learned to search here for instructions. But until either of these unlikely events could we pin a quick how-to at the top of the deli section, like the escort travels section has its rules clarified in a "read me" pinned to the top of it? I think that would cure most of the trouble and make this board all that much more friendly to read.

There's actually a better thread that well pre-dates that one. We did have it pinned in the deli for the better part of a year and it did no good whatsoever. :-(

 

Guys didn't read it, or (worse) complained that it was "in the way". We're damned if we do and damned if we don't here. The same people who WILL NOT use the search feature also won't read pinned threads, FAQs, or help files. <shrug> It's just a fact of life. Men don't read instructions. Ask any (straight) woman. ;-)

 

My personal impression here, though, is that if Rentboy wants links to be easy they can certainly bring it about. Instead, they have steadily made it more and more difficult to get/make direct links. After a certain number of years, you have to take a hint.

 

They're working awfully hard to prevent links. I have to think it's intentional because it's been so consistent over so many years, so any action on OUR part would be out of line. We tend to respect the wishes of other webmasters with regard to links and copyrights and all that crap because we appreciate it when they return the favor.

 

I could pin that thread, but it won't do any good (see above) and the next revision of Rentboy will come along and invalidate it. I also have to request special permission from the moderators to pin a thread, and my heart's just not in this one.

 

I agree that somebody needs to do something. I just think that somebody is on the Rentboy side.
