Is anyone else having a problem refreshing the "read new" tab? After signing in, reading the new messages and signing off, I return and the "read new" has the same messages instead of "no new messages.":-(

RE: Can't refresh 'READ NEW

HELP DADDY!! Looks like several members are having the same problem with refreshing "Read New." The numbers keep growing. I now show 63 new messages and I just finished reading them, rebooting, signing in and out. HELP!!!:-(

"Mark" doesn't seem to do a thing on my machine. I now have 6 pages of old threads listed when I select "read new".

RE: Can't refresh 'READ NEW

in my preferences I have selected "no" for the mark stamp. if i had selected "yes", i would need to click "mark" after each reading to register that i've read the new messages in that folder.

i prefer not to use mark and allow the "Otherwise, your last visit time stamp is used to keep track of new messages." that sounds more convenient to me---it automatically resets. well, it used to automatically reset as i signed in and out.

so i would like the messages to clear after each visit. what am i doing wrong?

RE: Can't refresh 'READ NEW

Ok. So when I went to my profile, I had "mark" checked no. I then went to read new, and there were 97 new threads, up from about 60 a few mins ago. None of the threads were in date order, but randomly placed in the forum.

Then, I went back and checked "mark", and went to each and every forum and clicked "mark" on each one. I then closed my browser, and signed back on. I then had 797 new messages.

I then changed it back to the way it was originally (no), and closed my browser and then signed back on the site. I then had 140 new messages.

This just seem to have happened overnight.

We are obviously doing something wrong. This problem started for me right after the recent format changes. How that could have impacted the automatic refresh is unknown to me. When did your problem start? So, after your experiment with checking the mark selection both yes and then no, it appears that there's more to this than that. Daddy?

The site worked fine on Monday, and on Tuesday morning, it was like this.

I am running Windows XP Pro, on a Dell 8550, 100 gig hard drive 30% full, security on MIE is set to medium, and I accept all first party cookies.

I turned off my firewall, but that did not seem to make much difference. I think it could possibly be that my machine is not recognizing the site's cookies, or >>>

Guys, I had a problem logging in earlier. Check to see

if your actually logged in. (i.e. the top left link on the

main page should be "Logout" and the secound line says "Logged in as xxxx".)

I recovered by clearing my cookies and web cache. IE 6.0 -> Tools -> Internet Options -> "Delete Cookies" and "Delete files"

I think you're right.

My machine is set up to disallow all cookies from every site unless specifically granted access. However, I did have an old cookie for male4malescort.com. After I deleted that cookie and changed my privacy settings to allow cookies from that site, the Read New seems to be working for me.

That's exactly how it used to work for everybody, before they logged on, now if you don't use 'mark old' messages never 'loose their color' so you can pick out new ones. This is badly affecting the usability of the system, as we used to respond wherever in a thread and others (the vast majority of which don't use mark and haven't changed the defaults in their profiles) would notice it because is was new and the stuff around it wasn't. Now posts not to the bottom of the thread aren't being looked at because they don't stand out for most users.

no problem logging on. But, I now 987 new posts.

Also, when the threads are displayed, they are not in date order, but all mixed together. Some from May (which my machine reads as "new"). But no order at all.

Daddy's guidance to delete cookies and files in the internet options DID clean all the old messages for me. But they still do not reset as "read new" as I log in and out. Now they are accumulating again and NOT resetting. I think I'm close to a fix Daddy, sorry to be a pain. What do you suggest next?

That worked for now. I haven't been logged on long enough to see if I am accumulating any "new". I deleted my cookies and files.

The old threads are still jumbled up, and all out of order.

RE: Can't refresh 'READ NEW

I tried clearing my cookies from my computer, and that worked for one time. But the threads are again piling up, and the ones that are displayed are in no order as to dates, etc. I check "list by date", but nothing happens. Meanwhile, I have 292 unread messages, some going back to May.

For me anyway, the forums are unuseable.

Daddy's direction to go to internet options and clear both cookies and files DOES clear the old messages and reset, but the process is really cumbersome after each reading. It used to reset "read new" automatically. Sorry to be such a pain Daddy. Is there anything else you can recommend?:-(

RE: Can't refresh 'READ NEW

Gringo and JWR,

I (think) I have the same problem with the new forum software that you do, namely that the old style auto mark doesn't work.

However, I've been able to make do with the manual process once I figured out the proper steps.

Here's is my checklist (which I only had to do once) to prepare for using the manual mark command:

1. Delete the old male4malecort cookie

2. Login

3. Click User menu

4. Click Edit your preference

5. Select "yes" for the "Use MARK time stamp feature?"

6. Click the Update button

7. Click Read new

8. Click Mark for each forum

9. Logout

Now, whenever I want to read new messages, I follow these steps:

1. Login

2. Click Read new

3. Read the messages

4. Click Mark for each forum once I'm finished

5. Logout

I hope this helps.

RE: Can't refresh 'READ NEW

Thanks Hoover for the suggestion. Although it is cumbersome, Daddy's direction to go to internel options and clear both cookies and files resets any "new messages" with 4 clicks. I don't know what happened to the automatic "read new" reset, but I can't seem to get around it any other way.:-(

RE: Can't refresh 'READ NEW

That works for us, but if we post as we used to, anywhere in a thread, it's now much less likely to be noticed and responded to by all the others that don't go through all this.

I hope if gets fixed too. I'm not a big fan of regularly clearing cookies and then having to remember logins and such for all the various sites affected...
