Anyone know of any legit, gay organizations that are in need. In LA or anywhere. My particular interest is of smaller organizations rights-related or aids-related that have a need for volunteers. <JR>

Dear Jason, if you can't work, you may not be able to volunteer, either. But someone with your experience and sensitivity might be a Godsend for an AIDS hotline, or just a general gay hotline, answering questions about sex from frightened and confused guys. It's also the kind of thing you can do sitting down -- or even lying down, if it comes to that. I hope you'll be better soon. Will

Jason, the fundraising community for gay organizations is a small one. If you call one of the established groups and ask to speak to their volunteer coordinator, I am sure that (if that group doesn't need you) you will be directed to another that does. Good luck.

Jason,

Read the update on your progress and was very dismayed at the difficulty of your recovery. Good luck and I hope things work out.

Now for volunteer opportunities, can you get on the gay conference circuit as a guest lecturer? I remember a post a few weeks ago about a former escort who spoke concerning AIDS issues at a fund raiser in Salt Lake City.

You are very articulate, easy on the eyes, and have a wealth of knowledge. I sure many organization would like to hire you as a guest speaker. This usually includes airfare, lodging, and a lecture fee. You could also do guest appearances at colleges and universities in the human sexuality courses.

God bless.

Hey Jason,

You are the dude! Anyway you should contact the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center at 323 993 7620. They have a program for homeless gay teens that always needs help and I think you would be truly a great person to help and consul with these kids. And if that doesn't work for you I'm sure they can direct you to something that will.

I don't think I'd find much to do as a guest speaker. I'm guessing having Aids is a precursor to that, but thanks for the suggestion and the sentiment on getting better. My condition is muscular for those that aren't sure and hoping to have some outside interest while I'm on hiatus. thanks again, <jr>

Whatever else you do, if you feel up to going onstage and either lipsycing or singing live, you are so good looking that you would probably be able to make a lot of tips for various charities by working with the LA chapter of the Imperial Court. I was working with the Houston group for many years until internal politics chased me away.

Also, I seem to remember that one of the largest glbt archives is in LA and might be named One. If its anything like the two archives here in Houston, they will always need help and it might be as simple as just sitting there as a docent so that they can keep the door open to visitors.
