Blue Flamingo is history. What a sordid dump it was. There is no true hustling venue in A-town, but working boys can sometimes be found at Charlies, Forum, and Boys Cellar. Most of the action is on the streets. Fourth Street between Splash Video Bar and Boys Cellar is interesting at times. Congress Av. between 7th and 4th also. Check out the guys on bus benches and standing at corners. And then there is always sleazy 6th ST., which some people claim is golden. Too crowded with drunk college kids for my tastes. Lots of young homeless drug addicts all over downtown and also on The Drag over by UT. There is a lot of talent on the streets of Austin, but almost all of these guys have a CRACK habit that will take your breath (and your money) away. If you have the stamina to party with these geeksters, you just might have a good time, but it is not an activity suitable for the faint at heart.

I have to admit with Paysforit... Austin really doesn't have a hustler scene. I just moved from there and the bar is about all the action you can find. Your probably better off savin your money and hooking up over the internet with some hot frat Jock. :)

My 2 Cents...

I disagree with the previous post, and at long last I am going to give a little update on the scene here in A-town. I have lived here for 6 years, and I have never known downtown to be more active. The scene has kind of shifted, running from 4th and Congress west until the street ends back past La Zona Rosa. Fifth St. in the opposite direction down to Brazos sort of completes the loop. Swing back around to Congress start all over again. In the daytime (and also at nite but park closes at 10PM), the social center for all the action is at Republic Park by the Post Office and the abandoned hulk of the postponed(?) Intel Bldg. This is largely a young homeless crowd with lots of addictions. Since the park has become such a hangout, there is emerging a core crowd of trick turning young men. By young I mean 18-40. I know of at least 15 guys working it from time to time around there. If one of them is not your cup of tea, he is likely to be willing to hook you up with somebody else for a nominal fee. The guys can be a little uptight. Gay life here is completely mixed up with the straight club scene in downtown Austin. This is actually very cool, but the result is that there is no gay ghetto kind of club scene. The straight and gay clubs just co-exist in the same neighborhood. That means there are lots of straight guys and girls out and about. This means that street hustling is not always so obvious. Not too many guys just hanging at the corner. There are usually a few, but better results can be had by taking a lot of time to locate a prospect and working hard to make some kind of eye contact. It really helps to meet somebody that can serve as a guide and procurer. I use a kid named Brian. He is usually down there with his hefty (and sweet) girlfriend. He is very approachable and willing to be helpful. Just don't fron him any money until he does something to earn it. There are one or two other guys that also try to be helpful to me because I guess they know that I'll toss some bucks their way in return. I guess this is not standard operating procedure for getting street trade, but it works for me. I have as much going on here with the boys as I ever did living in DC and California. Well almost, LA in the late 70's/early 80's was the alltime best, probably an historical epoch, but the scene here in Austin in the year 2002 ain't bad.

I forgot to mention in my Austin roundup that there are also young men to be found in some of the bars. These guys are mostly not the standard street hustler, nor are they "escorts" in the strictest sense. I prefer to think of them as young "opportunists". They usually hang with the druggy set in either Boys Cellar or Charlie's, and they seem to keep an eye out for older gents that look like they might be punting. I find the less crowded nights to be the most opportune. Usually they find me. Perhaps it is my demented yet avuncular appearance that lures them in my direction. At any rate, I usally pass on these opportunities because I prefer my trade to be a little rougher around the edges, and these lads are frequently young gay boys new on the scene and taking a walk on the wild side. Similar situations can also happen at Oil Can's and Dick's, but these bars are kind of cliquish, so it is harder to put things together without lots of cackling queens taking note of what is going down.
