I feel drawn to Philadelphia. I've never been there for any length of time and thought it might be fun to take a night or two, see the historic sites, the Thomas Eakins exhibitions, and have a good dinner and maybe try out one of Premiere's better offerings (I go for moderately muscular, smooth, preppy versatile top types).

Any suggestions about a hotel located conveniently to do these things, nice but not stratospherically priced? Restaurant suggestions? Lad suggestions?

Thanks.

You'll want to stay at the lovely gay owned and operated Alexander Inn at 12 & Spruce Streets, right in the heart of the Gayborhood. Well appointed rooms and moderately priced. They get booked up on the weekends so call in advance. Two very nice gay restaurants are walking distance from the hotel. For a fine dining experience try The Inn In Philadelphia on Camac Street between 12th & 13th, Locust & Spruce, or a little more casual and a lot more fun and friendly try The Venture Inn right next door on Camac Street. Woody's, Philly most popular neighborhood gay bar is only 1 block from your hotel on 13th between Locust and Walnut. The Westbury Bar is just 1 block up Spruce Street at 13th and Spruce, another neighborhood bar with a nice sandwich menu. 12th Air Command, another alternative choice to Woody's and The BikeStop on Quince Street between 11th & 12th, Walnut & Locust, Philly's only Levi & Leather Bar. Good Luck!

Philly is filled with new hotels that are pretty empty at the moment, so you can probably get good deals at upscale places like the Ritz-Carlton. There are loads of great restaurants, also. Send me a message to my inbox with your specific interests and tastes and I'll give more specific advice.

Actually, you should go to http://www.gophila.com There are currently lots of hotels offering 2 nights for the price of 1 on the weekends along with free hotel parking both nights and some other bonuses. The deals run through the end of March. Some of the top hotels in the city are part of it. You can stay in a place like the Loew's or Sheraton Rittenhouse for about $150 (plus tax) for 2 nights! An incredible bargain. I'm hoping to take advantage of it some time after the new year myself.

I haven't spent much time there in quite a while, so I'm sure the natives are better equipped to tell you what to do there.
