We'd welcome your postings in this forum on other Latin American/Caribbean destinations you've been to. That's the point! (Info on European/Asian destinations should be posted in those forums, obviously!)

If you use the "search" function WITHIN this forum, you should find a number of fairly recent postings about Costa Rica. Alternatively, just browse the earlier pages of this forum. You'll find the page numbers at the upper and lower right hand sides of the Escorts South main page. Considering that they were recent, you should find the posts on Costa Rica in the past three or four pages.

Happy hunting, and have a good trip! And please report back on your experiences!

Here is a copy of my posting from @003 about Costa Rica with helpful info. I hope:

I spent one week in late August 2003 in costa Rica. Mainly in San Jose. Carlos at Joluva House can be helpful with advice, but not about rent-boys. Well, I did not ask his advice in this regard.

Puchos is a strippers bar, where reportedly the boys strip to complete nudity with hard ons on stage. Many strippers were there when I visited on weekend, but I saw no full nudity before I left before midnight. Many boys offered me a "massage" at my hotel, maknig me think that they are also rentboys, but I declined. I was not in the mood to get some unknown guy to my hotel room. I saw no rentboys in the 2 saunas I visited, Paris, and Hispalis. The latter is much larger, now with restaurant, bar, and possibly dance area that were opened the weekend I was there. Many hot Latinos, but they are no match to my favorites, the Brazilians.

In summary, Costa Rica is a very beautiful country naturewise with very rich flora, and fauna, and many hot Latinos, though I had no experience with rentboys there. It is worth visiting, but not a match to Rio or Brazil. Hence, I'll be on my way to Rio soon.

Well, I thought of adding some helpful links and info.

Joluva House is a small gay hotel in north of downtown San Jose, very close to Paris Sauna http://www.gaycostarica.com/paris/index2.html (which is not a very interesting sauna). Joluva House is not a luxury or upscale place. There is no phone line in the rooms, so do not take your laptop with you. Here is a link to its site: http://www.joluva.com/ It has a link to a very helpful map of downtown San Jose with gay points of interest.

La Avispa http://www.costaricagay.com/laavispa/index2.html is very nice dance club south of downtown. Latino dance music is mainly played along with North American. It is very crowded early evening Sundays (As early as 7 PM) and Tuesdays evening.

De Javu http://www.yourdiscodejavu.com/Default1.htm plays more "American" dance music than Latino. I did not visit it.

Puchos http://www.puchosnightclub.com/ is a bar with strippers. Most from Nicaragua, Panama, and colombia. some native "Ticos" as Costa Rican call themselves. It is close to La Casita, another stripper club that i did not go to.

Hispalis http://www.saunahispalis.com/ is a very nice sauna with no rentboys, with new disco and restaurant that just opened in August.

I hope these links would be helpful to newbies to Costa Rica. Veterans, I am sure do not need them

  • 2 weeks later...

I was in CR less than a year ago ready to enjoy nature and have fun. I remembered the country as pleasant, safe with wonderful people. I had been in CR 3 times in the early 80s as part of my job.

What a change! The place is not safe and to convince yourself just look at the news reports each night -- assaults at gunpoint and in broad daylight were the norm.

I stayed at the Joluva with great expectations and was robbed FROM THE ROOM SAFE. The attendant, of course, knew nothing and, of course no one could have gotten into the safe because only I had the key ??? Tell that to the $180 that disappeared.

On my last night I was assaulted on the way to the Joluva by two punks. As they approached me, I walked faster, then one tried to hold me. I lashed at him and the impact made a cheap watch I had bought for my "city" travels fly. They went for the watch (I'm sure destroyed and worth less than the $14.95 I paid for it. As I was telling the story at the Joluva, another guest from SF came in and said HE had been assaulted. He fought the guys and was bitten in the back. They took him to the local clinic for attention.

Moral - I will NEVER go to CR again, much less stay at the Joluva.

Before I went to CR with a group last December, I did a search and read everything that was available at this site. One M4Mer and frequent visitor warned me not to walk from bar to bar by myself; he stated to take a taxi if and when traveling solo.

Although I didn't go to any gay bars or clubs or see any escorts, I found CR to be extremely beautiful and delightful. The people quite hospitable. I plan to return one of these days and enjoy other aspects which I missed out on during my first trip...

Sorry that the previous respondent had a traumatic experience.
