Right out of my youth... with two items to add... thin sliced panfried country ham with red eye gravy and banana pudding.

A little bit of heaven on earth and it'll probably speed one's trip to real place right along.

I was gonna say speed also; or bumps and Cuervo shots, but I thought that they weren't really part of any recognized food groups. Now that you've laid your lot with a little meth, I feel much better.

Later.

PS. Wendy, they're not really gonna make us grow up are they?

Trav,

You're close, but I think Herradura Anejo tops things off much nicer. The strong bouquet of Cuervo makes meth unpleasantly bitter.

Perhaps some pop-tarts cut into wedges, ala toast points, along with some cool-whip and colored sprinkles.

And maybe a mock apple pie. Just kidding!!! WHY did they come up with mock apple pie? Are apples that hard to come by?

<<For us, "comfort" means carbohydrates flavored with sodium and smothered in cholesterol.>>

It's not just southerners. Look at how many folks listed macaroni & cheese.

My grandmother used to make killer homemade noodles, so of course my whole family is addicted. Grandma was just stretching a buck. All it takes is eggs, flour, & broth. The eggs usually came from the chicken that made the broth. :D

The noodles were ALWAYS served over mashed potatoes in lieu of gravy. Talk about your carbo loads! Whoa!

Any time more than 3 of use get together, somebody has to make noodles & mashed potatos. Even if it's a pot luck get together, someone will be *assigned* to bring noodles.

Cuervo... Anejo...

Now it is clear that I'm a babe in the woods (as in innocent... almost) but would Absinthe serve? Probably overkill, right? (llterally) :-(

The folks from the midwest may recognize... Casseroles made with canned soup, such as cream of mushroom, ground beef, and scalloped potatoes. Perhaps was just my Mom that had a casserole a day based on a can of Campbell's soup.

It's all part of a very complex formula involving intake and days without sleep. I'd need more facts to give you a clearer answer.

It wasn't just your mom. Any potluck in the midwest will feature at least three of those casseroles. And it wasn't just scalloped potatotes, they also did a lot with Tater Tots and those canned onion rings.

Well, now that I have exhausted my supply of Zantac, Pepcid, Tums, Immodium, Ex-Lax and Breath Savers just from reading what the men from the midwest and the south enjoy as comfort foods/snacks, I am interested to know what the born and bred New York men eat as their favorite comfort foods/snacks.
