Recently, while in Rio, I used the services of an Apollus escort named Peter (Bruno). I saw him twice. He is truly a beautiful boy and I posted a review that was published yesterday. HooBoy used Peter a Coverboy, using a photo from Apollus. I thought this was something to be proud of and I e-mailed Peter with directions to access the Reviews. Please know that since I came back Monday, I have received at least 5 e-mails from Peter/Bruno telling me how much he misses my kisses, etc. etc. Well, after I posted the review the tone changed. I got an e-mail from him yesterday afternoon. First paragraph (as best I could translate using Systran) was something to do with the legality of making his photo available to "foreign guys". Keep it mind he is listed on Apollus! DUH The next para - they just discovered yesterday that his dear mother has cancer and he really needs US$450 for her treatment or she will die. I immediately sent a reply saying, sorry to hear about your mother but..... I then sent a copy of Bruno's e-mail and comments of my own to Nickolas, manager at Apollus (I have not received a reply). I did get an e-mail from Bruno this morning saying his poor mother had died and she would not have died if I had sent the money and that he would not be writing me anymore. I cry, I cry. This info is provided for whatever it's worth (maybe nothing). I like to keep in touch with the guys I see (at least for awhile) so I get their e-mail adds. I, frankly, am surprised I have not heard from Nickolas. I realize he is not responsible for his escorts, but I considered Peter/Bruno to be a representative of Apollus. This guy is really beautiful but you know what they about skin deep.

Sure, just copy the text from this thread and then paste it into an e-mail to Nickolas. I don't know him yet; I think Alex would have responded faster.

Let this be a lesson to one and all: some of these guys will try to chisel. It's up to you to decide whether or not to help. Others, however, don't, or only rarely will ask for assistance -- life is very hard for young, lower-middle-class and working-class guys in Brazil, so they're ordinarily not lying when they say they need extra cash. Official unemployment in São Paulo just hit 20% (the real figure is undoubtedly higher) and it's not much better in Rio, I'm sure. Young men are disproportionately affected.

As for the health claims, it's hard to know. The social safety net in Brazil is very skimpy, and health care is expensive or unaffordable for the poor or uninsured. These guys are virtually all using their earning to help out their families, and I believe that at least some of the pleas for help are genuine. (I know that a guy I've helped out over the years in B.H. told me he was having problems himself, and when I saw him not long afterwards it was clearly true.)

In deciding whether or not to help a favorite, keep in mind that we in the Northern Hemisphere are all very rich in Brazilian terms. When I recently opened a bank account in Brazil I was asked for my income, and when I expressed it in reais I was a bit stunned, because in Brazilian terms it was an awful lot of money, especially for a retiree! Here in the U.S. my retirement income is absolutely the middle of the middle-class (I net just under $3000 a month, which is comfortable but hardly lavish). In Brazil, that puts me in the top 5% of incomes -- possibly the top 1%! By contrast, one of the guys I know in Rio is angling for a great job that will pay him about R$1000 a month and he'll be thrilled to get it! So think about your own economic situations, and compare it to those in Brazil, and then decide if you want to help out on occasion.

If Peter had not used his MOTHER as the reason, I may have helped a little - certainly not US$450!! I've gotten request from my #1 Michel when he was behind on bills and I have and will continue to help - but "discovered today my mother has cancer" and she dies next day 'cause I didn't help?? Alex surely would have responded by now. Thanks for the directions.
