I am kathryn and I am doing a paper for Psychology, and particularly for human sexuality. I have a lot of information of the female side of escorting, but have found very little information about the male side. If there would be anybody who would be willing to talk to me about this subject, I would appreciate it. I believe that the real side of anything out weighs the "book" theories. I am interested in knowing several answers to some questions that I have including, 1)Why men do this type of work, is it the excitement or the money? 2)What types of services are out there 3)Are men interested in escorting women as well as men 4)What are the ratios of men who are willing to have a woman as a client

I have lived in Nevada all of my life, and prostitution here is very accepted, and respected. Thank you in advance for your time:-)

"101 Rentboys" is almost entirely about guys who work Santa Monica Boulevard. It therefore gives only a narrow view into the world of male prostitution.

Come on guys, help the lady out.

Katheryn, two people you might contact that have written books on escorting and have first-hand experience in the field often post on this site. You might get some good data from them.

Aaron Lawrence: http://www.aaronlawrence.com

Matt Adams: http://www.whatshotnews.com

And, of course, there are many experts on this site. ;-)

Kathryn,

While I cannot help you with your research (even if I wanted to escort, probably no-one with intact eye-sight would want to buy my services), I would like to welcome you on this board and wish you good luck with your studies.

John, the BIG HERO, answered two pages of questions for her yesterday afternoon. Let's hope he kept the sexual exploits to a minimum. I tried to watch over his back.<God help her>

Thank you! You have all been very kind in allowing me to invade your message boards.

Invade? Does that mean that you don't mean to stick around and become family? Darn.

PS. I started escorting in '73 and have been doing it off and on since then. Should you want to know anything from my perspective, ask away. Probably stick something in my inbox, or email me through my site.

Katherine, the question you posit usually ends up causing a flame war here. But I would tell you, having hired escorts since before some of the ones on the board here were born, I have never met one who didn't do it for the money. Sure, some liked sex and overall liked the work. But is the excitement you speak of that of someone doing something outside of the law? Never have heard anyone saying that. Doing something considered outside of the normal 9 to 5 job? You hear that a lot. With the younger ones, you see a lot of times that it is temporary, and those typically weave in and out until either established in a different career or relationship, or for whatever reason, don't do it anymore.

There have been some contentious threads on the board if you go into the archives. There have also been some good ones, including the effects of commercial sex on escorts and their private sexual desires.

Finally, the comment about escorts offering appointments with women. From my reading on the board here, most of the escorts don't offer that service, and if they do, it's never been reviewed or mentioned really in the message center. That would raise issues of that escort being "gay for pay", or else a "gay person in denial", both favorite subjects of derision by many posters. :)

There also was a movie done in the last year, and maybe someone would correct me, called "100 escorts" or maybe 100 "rentboys". I don't remember the exact title.

But if you read the different message centers here, you see just how broad the categories of different types of escorts and clients are. In sum, we're all just people.

Kathryn--

You can get some good ideas for the answers to your questions by going through this website and Message Center. You can also go to the escorts' website links to see what services they provide. I rarely see a male escort advertizing services for women, even those who purport to be "straight." I don't know if it's because the escorts dislike sex with women, or if it's simply because most women either don't need to or don't enjoy hiring escorts. My guess is that fewer than 10% of escorts who market to gay guys also market to women.

The question of why men escort probably has as many answers as there are escorts. I don't think it's as simple as "excitement" vs. "money." Certainly, I think most escorts have a higher than average sex drive, and often can find sexual excitement in many different types of men. Probably most have some degree of "sexual addiction," as do perhaps many of the clients who hire them. On the other hand, it's fairly easy money. It doesn't require a commitment to education or training. You can get up late almost every day, and not have to answer to a boss.

By a similar vein, some escorts are highly narcicisstic and have difficult personalities. Escorting can be a great profession for these people because (1) having someone pay you for sex feeds the narcicissm, (2) you don't have to worry about developing a close relationship with your "partners," (3) you don't have to please or be evaluated by a supervisor, (4) you only have to lay on the charm for an hour or two in most cases (something narcicists can easily do), (5) you get a sense of entitlement. If you read the definiton of Narcicistic Personality Disorder in the DSM-IV, you get a very good idea of why escorting is a tailor-made profession for people with this disorder. Note: I do not imply here that all or even most escorts are narcicists.

Finally, some guys just do it to help pay for schooling or as a bridge between jobs.

It's called "101 Rentboys"

That video shows up the biggest divide I see in the male sex industry: those who "escort" by choice and those who "hustle" out of desperation.

I just spoke to John on his way to an appointment while I was reading the posts here. He told me "Kathryn rocks!" & if you have anymore questions, just fire away.

Kathryn, if you're interested in a straight escort of the glamorous "American Gigolo" type you can try this guy:

If I were a rich widow or frustrated wife this man would certainly get my business.:*

Can anybody tell me what "poppers" are? And is this a common thing? I feel silly asking, but you know how it is! Thanks:*

Kathryn, I live here in vegas and would be more than willing to meet up with you to give all the dirt on why, how ,consequences and perks of the escorting world. Perhaps coffee.

RE: JOHN

WOW! What a great opportunity that would be for me. I am not in Vegas, but the other side of the state (Reno) however, let me see what I kind do to rearrange somethings:) I have a few months to work on this project, so perhaps we can get together and have that coffee between now and then. Coffee would be great!

He is German, so how can he portray an American Gigilo?

"Poppers" are amyl or butyl nitrate....a chemical that gives you a rush of sorts when you inhale it. It's been a big favorite of the gay community for many years, but I haven't used it since the mid 1970's. I usually ended up with a headache from poppers.

>You can get up late

BINGO !

As far as the narcissism thing...the mirrored walls in my bedroom are really just to make the space seem bigger.:p

There is a beautiful scene in the first of the Nunsense musicals where the Mother Superior tries poppers for the first time. If you can read that or see it onstage - well, there are a host of other reasons to do so, but one is it might give you a very good idea as to this. If you go to a porn store, you can probably get a bottle for as little as $10, although some brands now are getting up to $20 or even $30. Since they are of questionable legality, you should probably ask the clerk for "head cleaners" as they are sold as liquids with which to clean your videotape heads. I don't know if they would even work for that purpose, but that is the dodge.

Amyl nitrate was origionally developed to help with heart problems of some kind. They are a vaodilator (I'm not a doctor, and if I get any of this wrong, somebody correct me, please) which means that what they do basically is to dilate your blood vessels, thus allowing the heart to pump more blood through them quicker. So, a rush is actually a rush of oxygenated blood to your brain. It at least seems to somehow help the nerve synapses to register stronger sensations in the brain. Most of the effects wear off within minutes and there are no flashbacks.

Hey guys...To those of you that are helping me out on this research, thanks. I still have a few more questions and I owe many of you some responses. I am in the middle of midterms right now...thus have not had time to responde to anything. I will be back in the midst of it beginning again on Thurs. Thanks

Good luck with your midterms, Kathryn!

Actually, a lot of people use them to help with their erections. It works by the same mechanism as Viagra, except Viagra is more specific to the blood vessels in the penis (as opposed to arteries all over your body). The first guy I ever saw using it told me that getting great erections was why he did it. I don't know what percentage of poppers users do it for the erections. Thank God, I've never had problems with erections (especially with handsome escorts), so poppers never tempted me. And if the escort's good, what better high can you get than having sex with him?
