Conversing with the Brazillians -- and other countrymen as well

This may have been covered here before and if so, I apologize.

 

Because I am ebarrassed to admit to being up to only two Portugese words in six months, I rely on the internet to converse. The boys really get a kick out of it and since I typically travel with several laptops nowadays, I give the boys each one and we have the greatest time conversing. I learn a lot and so do they.

 

There are a bunch of places to go for this sort of thing I suppose, but the one I use is http://ets.freetranslation.com

 

Just thought I'd share this. If you have only one laptop or even a lobby, business center or internet cafe computer, it is easy enough to share one and worth the look of delight on their faces.

 

Someone should suggest to the saunas to install a courple of workstations. Most likely it would just be another avenue to make some extra dinero, then again it could add to the snob appeal for those poor guys who cannot read let alone type.

 

PDA users can really find this effective, but no doubt before all is said and translated, the boys will be hitting you up for one.

The website I use for translation is http://www.freetranslation.com. It's very simple to use. However, sometimes the translation is a little too literal, as it translates each word individually and you miss the concept. But I guess it's better than nothing. Take care. Robbguy

There's a great software package for translating Brazilian Portuguese to English and English to Portuguese. It's based on cut and paste/copy. Example: When I receive an e-mail from Rio in Portuguese, I simply highlight the text, select cut then copy. I also have Spanish. The software is provided by Systran. The one I have is Systran Personal 4.0. The price has increased. My software cost $25.00 and $5.00 additional Spanish. You download from the internet. They have several languages. Their website is http://www.systransoft.com Now I can reply to e-mails in Portuguese. Also, to works if you want to translate something on a Brazilian website. They also permit you to translate 150 words on line.
