The reason for this is an attempt to screen out knives and guns from carry-on luggage (although is debatable if screeners are effective). As someone that travels 50% of the time, I am more than happy to deal with this delay than risk another incident like 911. Most reasonable people will accept this.

 

They should prohibit carry ons for a while (only purses for the ladies), then will not be such long delays at security, and reduced opportunity to smuggle arms onboard. This will address Mr. Ready's impatience and leave me with a piece of mind.

My old Polish landlady in Chicago had a good point about the lack of screens in the building. She said if were screens on the windows, the flies cannot get out.
