Saunas and Prices in Salvador

I've read some fantastic information on the city of Salvador. It has GOT to be on my itinerary for its history, music, etc. What's the tourist scene there? Is safety as much an issues as in Rio? And is there a sauna or two "Rio style?" Are prices the same- or a little less than the bigger cities?

When I return to Brasil within the next few months, Salvador, Bahia will be my second stop; Sao Paulo will be my first.
