Northern Mexico

Has anybody had experience in the northern part of the country, near Caifornia? Are there any specific gay areas that are safe? Also, does anyone know the age of consent in Mexico ... I keep receiving different numbers and want to be sure I'm within the law.

Tijuana and Mexicali are both big cities and have gay scenes. I haven't been there recently, so I don't know what places are currently popular. According to the Spartacus Guide, there's a gay and lesbian info line in Tijuana, at 88-02-67. You could try calling it once you get there. I'd suggest trying the Mexican gay website http://www.sergay.com.mx which is pretty complete. There is a section advertising escorts, but it requires Adult Check to view the photos.

 

I'm not sure what the age of consent is in Mexico, but I'd strongly advise avoiding anyone under 18. The San Francisco Chronicle has been full the past few days with the story of a wealthy local who is currently in a Thai jail awaiting extradition to Mexico for sexual abuse of minors in Puerto Vallarta. Some of these minors sound like they were at least 16 at the time they had sex with this guy, so using rocket science I've figured out that the age of consent must be higher! Since you don't EVER want to become familiar with the Mexican criminal justice system as a defendant, stay away from anyone whose age you can't verify. And when in doubt, don't!
