It's a small, small world. My last night in São Paulo I was sitting in Galeto's having a light dinner when who walks in the door? Alex, of Apollus Agency, accompanied by a ravishing friend (JUST a friend). We had a nice long gab, about which more shortly. The following day I headed for Lagoa to indulge in some steamy relaxation before catching my 11:30 p.m. flight back to the U.S. I went into the Shopping Santa Cruz at the metro station near Lagoa for some last-minute shopping and as I was walking out was stopped by a straight acquaintance from San Francisco, who was also just leaving the mall! He was in SP doing some computer work. . . I mean, what are the statistical odds of this? And these kinds of encounters have happened to me many times over the years!

Anyway, back to Alex and news: Apollus is sponsoring an all-day Carnival sailing cruise WITH ESCORTS of the magnificent bay that makes up much of the southern coastline of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The cruise will be on March 4th, and will cost US$80, including bus transportation from Copacabana to Angra dos Reis (where the sailing ship is based), complimentary cocktail, lunch, soft drinks, Brazilian music, a free chance at a raffle with the prize being an interlude with the escort of your choice, etc. All this in one of the most gorgeous tropical settings you've ever seen: a vast bay of emerald-green water spangled with infinite little (and not-so-little) islands fringed with white sand and palm trees. . . Additional cocktails and "adventures" with the escorts will be extra, of course. March 4th is Fat Tuesday, but for those unfamiliar with Rio's Carnival, there's no need to worry that you'll be missing anything back in the city. The big parades and events in Rio's Carnival take place on Saturday and Sunday nights, so Tuesday is actually rather quiet (unlike New Orleans, where it's the grand climax of the festivities).

According to Alex, full details and pictures of last year's cruise should be posted on the Apollus site (http://www.agapollus.com) by the middle of next week, under Eventos/Events. Past cruises have been wildly popular and capacity is limited, so RESERVATIONS ARE ESSENTIAL!!! The deadline is February 28th, but the earlier the better. E-mail Alex directly at apollusboys@yahoo.com.br, or phone him. From abroad dial (your int'l access code)+(5521)+9298-0687. Just remember the time difference, if you phone.

Of course, juicy descriptions of this entire interlude of tropical madness are expected here on the site!

I'm just bumping this up because it's getting closer to Carnival and the deadline for making reservations for this cruise-to-remember! If you're going to be in Rio at Carnival and want a different and memorable experience I have a feeling this could be it! ;-) So give Alex a ringy-dingy or send him an e-mail for reservations and all the details!
