If you've ever thought about having "a little work done" on that sagging jaw line or those baggy eyes, you might want to think about doing it while spending time in Rio, S.P. or B.A. on your next vacation. For much less than it would cost you in the U.S. you can get top-quality work done, by English-speaking surgeons. Ernani in Rio, or Roberto in B.A. (see the Our Man in Buenos Aires thread) should be able to help you find well-regarded local plastic surgeons who can rejuvenate you affordably! You should also be able to find doctors who can do things like radial keratotomy for much less than it would cost in the U.S. I'm reminded of this because a good friend just came back from visiting his family in a smaller city in Colombia where he had the laser eye surgery done for under US$600!!! This came with lots of personalized service, too, not an assembly line where you just see the practitioner for 30 seconds!

Many practitioners in South America will have trained in the U.S. or Europe in case you're worried; if you want to know, ask. But it's something to consider if you've been thinking about a little or a lot of remedial work. Not only can you save money, but you don't have to tell anybody what you did. When people say you look marvelous after you get back from your vacation, just smile and blame it on Rio. . . ;-)

Guest Ernani

Tri is very right.

I used to be a grotesque man ashamed to go out in the streets until Dr. Azevedo met me. He decided to turn me into a new Frankestein.

Thanks to him, I'm now a gourgeous model / porn star .

Just kidding ( eh eh eh ! )

Seriously, plastic and cosmetic surgeries in Brazil are among the best in the world, and the prices here are so cheap... ( like most of things here ).

After US, Brazil is the second country in number of surgeries.

Can you imagine a so sexy people like us with the new benefits of medicine ?:9

Do you want to look much better ? Ask me how.

Roberto ("Our Man in Buenos Aires," see thread elsewhere on this board) send the following information about prices for popular procedures that he culled from a recent article in the B.A. press. (I may get some of the terminology slightly off, as I'm translating the message and article he sent from the original Spanish.)

Now is the time to take advantage of South American prices. These are typical charges at Buenos Aires clinics, in Argentine pesos (today's conversion rate was approximately 3.55 to the dollar):

Mild chemical peel: 200 - 250 pesos. These are for wrinkles, recent spots and acne scars.

Strong chemical peel: 500 - 700 pesos per treatment. These are for deep wrinkles, large age spots and crows feet.

Laser peels: 300 - 400 pesos for small lesions up to 1000 pesos for larger problems requiring multiple treatments (like for vascular problems, large spots or birthmarks, crow's feet.)

Collagen implants: 1000 - 1500 pesos per treatment.

Hialuronic (?) Acid: 2000 pesos per treatment.

Botox: 800 - 1000 pesos per area treated.

In the B.A. gay magazine there are ads for a clinic that does this kind of work run by a Dr. Leslie Ortner who Roberto has seen on TV now and again giving interviews. Blond, Swedish, forty-ish, quite knowledgeable and serious, according to Roberto. If you're interested in having some things touched up, his clinic's e-mail is saludconbelleza@hotmail.com. Or, if you'd rather have some help arranging this, or getting more information (for a modest honorarium, of course) you can get in touch with Roberto at vdagp@hotmail.com
