I know this has been discussed before - but I need validation. I am mid 60's, slightly overweight, pale (as opposed to tanned), and have a slight ED problem!! Just so you have an idea, I'm mid-50's, more than slightly over-weight, and white as a sheet from far too much time in an office staring at a computer screen. (To be fixed as soon as I retire!) Scenic, but not necessarily a place where you'll do that well. In off-season, the gay beaches won't be very crowded weekdays, but will be packed on weekends if the weather is good. At night there's always the old standy-by, "La Cueva," a small, darkish basement bar on r. Miguel Lemos, which is a place where older men and younger guys who are interested in them meet and mingle. Some for pay, others not. Again, in off-season, it's more likely to be busier weekends.

 

Go anytime you want. If you'd rather avoid the risk of the current dengue epidemic, wait until May or June, when the rainy season should be over and the mosquitoes much less of a menace. Both of those months are low-season. July is a school holiday month in Brazil, so it's a mini-high season locally and the beaches and bars will be much livelier. The saunas are active year-round, though.

I agree with Trilingual completely!! You will have a gret time. When i was there in Oct. there was a man in the suana who was a diplomat, who was 74 yrs old, not overwieght, but looked closer to 84, he was having the time of this life(at Rogers)! Yes, absolutely, go to Rio and go to Club 117 and to Roger's. And if the opportunity presents itself, go to Sao Paulo (Lagoa & Fragatta & Alterosas saunas) and to Porto Alegre (Sauna Plataforma).
