I have settled on Spain for part of my trip - is there any real difference in boys/quality between Madrid versus Barcelona? I hear from the comments already that Barcelona has few actual Spainards - is Madrid any better? Where does one find actual SPanish guys?? INternet?

An article in today's "O Globo" reports on a recent survey of male sex workers in Spain. 70% of the men who work in the sex trade in Spain are Brazilians. This was based on a survey of some 7000 men in the sex trade by the Spanish Ministry of Health and a gay organization. So it won't be surprising, then, that a lot of the guys you're likely to meet in Spain in the saunas, the agencies or the "houses with boys" will be Brazilian!

One of the problems...in another thread there was a discussion going on about how information gets spread within the garoto scene, and the general rising of prices in Brasil.

In the last lets say 5 years, the sheer number of brasilian escorts working mainly in Barcelona, Madrid, London, Zurich and Frankfurt/Berlin

has got outrageous. You will hardly find ANY Spaniard in the Escort scene in Spain.

Brasilians do not tend to have the best reputation here in Europe anymore. Infact I know a lot of upper class escorts who refuse working with them when you want a tag-team. Of course this is not a general conviction. But you can feel a trend here. These escorts still make quite a lot of money and when they go back for holidays to Brasil, they spread the word. It's a sowball-effect.

A couple of years ago they all had the dream to go to the US. Now they are all coming to Europe as it is quite eays for them to get in. I've seen so many sauna boys I personally know from my numerous trips to Brazil now working in the above mentioned cities it is just unbelievable.

I just returned from a trip to Barcelona and I spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at Thermas sauna. I loved the sauna...found it much more similar to the Brazilian saunas than Paragonya in Zurich.

I was very pleased with the selection of guys....yes, there were quite a few Brazilians, including a few that I knew from the Rio saunas. But the vast majority that I met were non-Brazilians. I connected with an Albanian, 4 Romanians, 2 Bulgarians, 2 from Morocco, an Egyptian...and 1 Brazilian. There was plenty of variety...but I didnt meet a single Spaniard. There also seemed to be some animosity between the Brazilians and non-Brazilians. The non-Brazilians trashed the Brazilians, calling them locos.

From my perspective, the many Brazilians in the sauna were gorgeous...but I wasnt there for the Brazilians, I was there for the others. I have to admit (maybe its cultural?), the Brazilians know sex...the east Europeans were gorgeous, too..but they seemed more straight and it took more effort for them to become as engaged as the Brazilians. Still, for me it was a nice break from the Rio saunas and I cant wait to return.

Hi Reed

Thank you for your excellent report. How would you compare a visit to the Barcelona Sauna to say a visit to Lagoa or 117? You mention the "variety" factor in Barcelona but how do other things compare? I can't decide whether to go back to Brazil this year or venture to Spain for the first time. Also what hotel did you stay at in Barcelona and would you recommend it to others?

Thermas sauna is comparable in most respects to the bigger saunas in Brazil...Lagoa or 117. Its a large, 3 level sauna. You enter at street level and there are two lower floors. The bar area is on the bottom level, along with a good sized pool and a 12 person jacuzzi. In my visits I never saw anyone in the pool (one of the boys described it as unsanitary, with cold water) but on a number of occasions I noticed groups in the jacuzzi. The bar area isnt as large as those in 117 or Lagoa, though it was adequately sized. There are probably 10 stools or so at the bar, along with maybe a half dozen tables, with chairs, beside the bar. I didnt see a stage area and there were never any "shows" like you see in the Brazilian saunas.

On the ground floor there was a large wet sauna and there was a large dry sauna on the second floor, I think. I'm sure there was a video room, though I didnt see it.

There was a confusing maze of small rooms on a couple of the levels which were free and available for use. The halls were very dark and, for me, difficult to navigate, but with a boy leading the way I guess that wasnt a big problem. The rooms had a small, cot sized bed with plastic covering. Most of the boys immediately suggested these rooms. There were also "suites" available for rent..9 euros, I think...about $15 or so...very comparable to what you would pay for a cabine in Brazil. The bed was much bigger and had a sheet. There were no showers in the room like you would find in Brazil. You had the room for an hour.

For me, with the exception of the absence of shows, Thermas seemed like a Brazilian sauna.
