I notice on "escort travels," that longtime escort Stephan Lacoste closes his annoucement with the thought:

"When loved ones don't live up to your expectations, it's your expectations, not your loved ones that let you down."

Does anyone else agree this is a ridiculous statement? Consider it applied to an escort--so I expect as escort to arrive on time, be clean, and perform as agreed and he arrives late, intoxicated and unable to perform--that's my fault?

Even applied to a loved one, the statement just makes no sense to me--

What do you think?

Think the sentiment is meant to convey that we should not set expectations on loved ones, but merely love them unconditionally.

The expectations are ours and therefore our responsibility if they are not met.

I can't say I agree, but as far as not making sense...

OK, it makes sense, but it's foolish new-age crap.

Obviously, if my expectations are unrealistic (I expect you to cure cancer, or I expect you to always agree with me)--then it's certainly my responsibility if they're not met--but to imply that ever disappointment in others is somehow my fault is really weird
