Wait a second, I did not subscribe to that list, how in the hell did they get my E mail address?

Below is a copy of my newsletter that I have cut and pasted into here.

This is just a quick note to all of you that I do not give out E mail addresses to anyone. If for some odd reason you have gotten on another porn stars E mail list and your not sure how that happened ..please ask them. Because I do not give out anyones addresses that are on my Talvin DeMachio E mail database.

There have been a few of you as of today that have asked me how did I get on (I am not going to name the porn stars name) E mail list? I don't know how that happened but I would for sure ask that person. It is not right for anyone to just give out another persons E mail address. I know it happens all the time but that still does not make it right. I know some of you know who this porn star is since you just got a newsletter

from that person today. Your E mail is safe here trust me.

I urge you to challenge that person on how they obtained their information. What that person has done is wrong and the person who gave out the E mail addresses was wrong in doing so.

To me this is a very cowardly act on getting people to subscribe to their list. No one should be subjected to this. Some of you may say this is no big deal. But think about it? It really is. How did this individual get access to YOUR E mail address?

I do not sell my list to anyone. And if people like my site...they are free to joing AT WILL and remove themselves AT WILL.

I know E mail lists are pertained all the time and sold to other businesses ect. And to me that is wrong too.

I hope to hear feedback from people on this matter.

Hi Talvin:

I suspect some folks wound up on that email list because some enterprising soul clicked on the little email icon next to their name as it appears wherever one posts a reply in the message center, copied the email address when an email window came up, and added it to their list. I have to admit the first time I received internet email (as opposed to the private email in the message center) I was kinda shocked....since I did'nt know I had made that information accessible. The email was from someone I in no way minded hearing from, so it didn't bother me. But I appreciate the concern you raise. I do get lots of spam and really hate it. I didn't manage to make it on the mass mailing you referred to, however.

Anyway, thanks for raising the issue for discussion. I'm much rather "request" email information by signing up for a mailing list, rather than just have it appear unsolicited.

That's certainly one possibility, but a lot of work for little return. And for anyone who is concerned about it, you can turn that feature off in your profile.

Mailing lists are pretty easy to come by, and not very expensive. In fact, a large portion of the spam I receive are offers for "fantastic targeted mailing lists".

Until recently, I worked for one of the largest legitimate suppliers of mailing lists in the US. If the spammers' "fantastic targeted mailing lists" are so good, why didn't they know where I worked? :7 The whole point of "targeted mailing" is to avoid sending offers to people who are not likely to be interested.

Well then I would say that whoever keeps sending me "girly" porn sites while I'm in a gay chat room has seriously screwed up!

I just think it is totally wrong though for another porn star to add some one to their list without that persons permission. That person (who is the victim in this case) should be given the chance to sign up at HIS own will or at least be asked if he would like to join. NOT FORCED.

I agree, morally.

But there's a multi-billion dollar industry out there that lives and breathes on mailing lists. What they do may be pesky, but it's a huge chunk of our economy.

Now, if one escort gives his mailing list to another without the express permission of the people on that mailing list it's not only wrong it's illegal.
