In another thread (Deli – Pavlo) the subject of escorts having “business sense” was discussed. Since I have recently dealt with a couple of individuals who seemed to lack basic business skills I though it would be instructive, informative and receive a higher profile with escorts themselves if discussed in further detail in this forum.

In the Pavlo thread PWIT and Jesse made some good observations. Jesse mentioned “how big of a business industry this really is”, and the importance of reading reviews and keeping abreast of what is transpiring around you. While that is an important aspect of having a certain amount of “business sense”, having respect for the client and carrying on in a professional manner is important as well, especially when the client that is paying top dollar. As Jesse mentioned some guys consider escorting a “career choice”, others think of it as “a fast way to make cash”. Now as PWIT pointed out there are quite a few guys out there who have it all together… great contact, great communication skills, outstanding websites, knowledge of legal issues, etc. However a great percentage of guys just don’t seem to get it at all.

If I may relay just a couple of incidents:

Recently I emailed an escort with the intention of setting up an appointment. The email was succinct, earnest in tone, and specific in nature. I never received a reply. Ordinarily I would assume the guy was busy, traveling, or had personal problems. However, this individual is a recurrent poster on this site. From the frequency of his postings three things are obvious: he is not overly busy with a day job, seeing clients is not preventing him from being online in the evening or wee hours of the morning, and most importantly by ignoring a potential client he has categorically no business sense (or common sense) what-so-ever.

Now many of this person’s postings are at times thoughtless and confrontational in nature, and presumably intended to keep his name before the public. Why would he engage in such activities only to then ignore a seemingly genuinely sincere inquiry from that public?

I realize that many escorts are deluged with all sorts of bogus queries and requests. However, that reality is unfortunately part of the profession. In fact, virtually every job has aspects that are unpleasant and difficult to deal with. That is a simple fact of life. As any entrepreneur will tell you, a $250.00 per hour rate does not just represent payment for a person’s actual time on the clock, but includes the other “costs” of doing business as well.

Now my second recent incident:

When an escort fails to confirm a time and you have to repeatedly call him on the day of the appointment to be assured that he is on the same time schedule… that is not good business sense. When he then tells you he may or may not be there at the agreed upon time… that is not good business sense. When he fails to read your email detailing what you expect to accomplish during your session until two minutes before it is supposed to begin… that is not good business sense. When he fails to read the entire email and then chides you for not being specific… that is not good business sense. When he keeps you waiting outside his building while you are discussing the above incidents on your cell phone… that is not good business sense. Now I don’t expect guys to be Martha Stewart, but when you enter an apartment and the place is in complete disarray, untidy beyond belief, and a complete and unqualified mess… that is not good business sense. When he approaches you with coffee breath… that is not good business sense. When an escort crosses the line regarding limits placed… that is not good business sense…

I could go on and on… and as I noted in the other thread I have come to the conclusion that some guys are simply “half-baked dim-witted idiots”. They have no clue regarding what Jesse referrers to as a “career choice”, a choice that should involve doing one’s homework and being well-prepared. Now when you visit any professional, physician, lawyer, or whatever, you expect him to be on top of his game… Shoot! Even when you go to the barber you expect him to act in a competent and professional manner. Now the circumstances noted above all occurred with an individual who is highly educated with post graduate degrees and is certainly old enough to know better… However that does not guarantee good business sense or even common sense! However, as a person who has successfully run a business for quite a number of years I know the amount of effort required to be successful. Perhaps I am too old for this game, but as JT noted in the other thread, it is the over 40’s guys that have the disposable income to afford the prices escorts charge these days.

Now with all the cash these guys are making, I shudder to think of what type of “business sense” they have when it comes to how they are using the big bucks they are raking in… Again as PWIT says some have great goals in life… in fact my favorite retired escort has become involved with what I hope is a very successful business venture… We had many discussions about setting up a business, retirement planning and other aspects of entrepreneurship.

Well, just some observations… and forgive me for venting… and just for the record I recently did see an individual that did seem to have it all together… proof that there are indeed some guys out there that can use the head on their shoulders as well.

Those are some very interesting ovbservations.

But to be honest, do you you really think all these things are escort specific?

I have personally had 3 horrific dentists out of 5 I have been to in my life. I have had to quit seeing 2 doctors. 2 of the 3 lawyers I have had professional dealings with were terribly unprofessional and I would never use them again for anything.

I don't think the fact that a high percentage of escorts are unprofessional is necessarily just a factor because of their chosen career. I think that in general there is a large portion of humanity that just will never be professional no matter what level of education and what career they achieve.

I'm sure some will disagree, but those are just my thoughts on the matter.

Not here.

You have a wisdom beyond your years. It takes some people a lifetime to learn that professionalism is not automatically bestowed (on themselves or on others) with a (pick one: medical degree, law degree, CPA, PhD, other).

I work in a telephone call center dealing on the phone with many high-income individuals, eg doctors, businessmen, professionals, etc. It never ceases to amaze me how disorganized and disfunctional relative to fairly simple matters some of them can be and makes me wonder how in the world they got to where they are other than possibly through nepotism.
