I was wondering which chat forum you guys find to be the most fruitful. I used to hang out in AOL Los Angeles m4m a few years back and was somewhat happy with it, but I've let my membership lapse. Someone told me AOL is clamping down on escorts harder than they used to, and there is not as much activity.

I've never tried the gay.com chat. Just going in as free seems to result in a popup-fest, not the kind of pop-up's I'm much interested in, either. They list 20,000 guys on line... any of them escorts? Searching profiles for "escorts" results in 250+ matches, most saying This profile has been deleted by the member... is this because of scams or morality cops? Is it worth the money for the premium membership?

Nerd that I am, I used to like IRC, but it was a non-starter for escort meeting.

Maybe I'm missing a good one? I don't mind paying a membership fee, but I would hope for a little action for my money.... I'm in LA if that makes any difference (or if there's a great local chat).

Thanks!

I can only speak to the East Coast side, but AOL seems to have quite a few escort profiles. New York has two "companion" rooms that are almost always full and the NYC Hotel M4M is usually 50% or more escorts.

Gay.com is, in my opinion, not as escort or client friendly. For instance, in my chat bio, I cannot use the word "generous". But I have noticed now that gay.com has an escort search function, so perhaps they are becoming more enlightened.

I do agree that gay.com is extremely annoying in regard to pop-ups. You MUST enable them in order for the chat function to work, and then you get innundated with advertising pop-ups also. I understand there is a chat client you can download to get around this, but I haven't bothered with it.

Coming from an escorts standpoint they both suck horribly. The amount of time spent sitting in a chatroom to actually get a client is ridiculous. I'll flip em on if I'm home and have nothing better to do on occasion. But in general it's not worth my time. And the majority of clients found on both are quite cheap and think that $200/hour is too much money.

Actually, they don't care if people are escorting. They just want to make money off it if people are. So escorting in their chatrooms is against the rules. Because they want escorts to pay them to advertise on their site. It's all about the money.

Jesse, I have to agree. Many of my fellow clients seem to think that AOL is some sort of Wal-Mart for escorts and try to bargain. I'm proud to say I'm not among them :7

The escorts I've met thru AOL usually "park" in a room and go about their business around the house and check in for IMs or e-mail.

My experience was like yours with AOL Jesse, except now I'd say most of my interest is 50/50 AOL/online ads like Rentboy, Men4rentnow, etc... I find that I get more clients that are in some type of relationship from AOL chatrooms than any of my ads...interesting coincidence?

I think gay.com has become one big ripoff. I can't even get into a chat room. I have the latest Javascript (required) and allow popups on that site. When I click on "Enter Chat", the Messenger Room List Window briefly appears and disappears. Have never figured out why. I have tried to enter chat through IE as well as AOL. I decided to try to get help from the site. It turns out that you must buy a Premium Membership to get any kind of help. You can't even send e-mail for support, let alone interactive help. Each time I've attempted to get help, a window appears asking me to buy a Premium Membership. Isn't that special? A site without any kind of free online help.

If you place an ad, or try to answer an ad, and don't have a Premium Membership, you can let someone know you're interested, but can't provide an e-mail address or send full messages back and forth. In short, both members must pay for a Premium Membership to send messages back and forth. Otherwise, all you can do is "flirt". They set it up to tease you into purchasing a Premium Membership.

[b/]I assume the chat rooms are still free. If anyone knows what you have to do to get into them (besides what I've already said), please send me mail or a private message.[/b] Thanks.

RE: AOL Chat Question

I don't subscribe to AOL and have "assumed" that I can't access their chat rooms. Is that correct or is there a way free to participate?

I used to go to Gay.com but have never seen or met an escort there. I have to agree with others that their pop-ups and formats really suck. I've also had problems with getting their chat to load (even after Java updates).

I think Gay.com has serious tech service problems and they don't "play" well in all operating systems.

Raife, I've found guys both in AOL chatrooms and on gay.com. It is, of course, hit and miss. And, no, I'm not in LA. .x( That said ...

< Gay.com is, in my opinion, not as escort or client friendly. For instance, in my chat bio, I cannot use the word "generous".

Why not try any of the following: genrus, jenruss, etc.? Works for me, till some bastard member who's lookin for free sex reports me. x( x(

Finally, I met an escort in Houston in an AOL chatroom a few months ago and I had a fuckin awesome time with him. I posted about him here, but he doesn't want a Review because he's so low profile. He not a lowlife druggie; he's a real quality guy. Hotter than fuck too. }(

I think you missed the point. I don't use it for free. I don't use the chat rooms because I haven't been able to access them. And, as I have indicated, you [b/]cannot[/b] exchange information with someone in the Personals without buying a Premium Membership. I remember when the Personals were totally free. But those were better days on the Internet. [b/]What's a ripoff are the exorbitant fees charged by gay.com and other sites to fully use the Personals section. It is also most unusual to be excluded from contacting the web site about technical difficulties without purchasing a Premium Membership.[/b]

Does anyone know if you can use AOL chatrooms without subscribing to AOL as your ISP?
