Sorry, but no. It's not *your* thread. You started it, but once it's posted it's free to go wherever any other member(s) want to take it. Anyway, there's still a whole other branch on it dedicated to your original post. There's room for more than one string of thoughts.

 

Plus, it's not a political discussion. It's about race, which goes beyond politics, religion or war in American society. The idea that a racial discussion can only be held when and where the socially dominant say it will is part of the larger problem. It's the same as joel say he's "tired" of hearing about it. Shunting it off where it's easier for you to ignore doesn't solve anything.

 

As a practical matter, I do admit that it's not especially relevant to "Deli" topics. Then again neither is the whole airport security line of discussion. But if you're encouraging anyone to find a better home for it, the "Lounge" seems more suitable.

 

Edit: I composed this while joel was posting his response, and wasn't responding to that. I stick to the above, however, and continue to encourage anybody else to contribute if they wish.
