Decided to make my first visit to Amsterdam next month. I've read all the reviews posted, and contacted a few folks, but wondered if some of you might have some specific recommendations.

If this is your first trip to Amsterdam, may I suggest that you be very careful on the train from the airport to the Central Station. There are a lot of pick pockets on the train and in and around the Central Station.

 

On my second trip to the city, I was robbed on the train by two kids who worked as a team. They were experienced pros, and I was careless and played right into their hands. One distracted me by blocking my view while the other took my carry on. It was the only time in my life when I traveled with cash, and the two kids got it all. I spent the first hour and a half in the police station!

This is a common problem in many countries. I went to my local luggage shop and purchased a small "purse" type of device that hung from a leather strap around my neck.

 

It was big enough to carry my passport, traveler's checks, credit cards, and some cash. I kept the container between my outer shirt and undershirt. It was hidden away and totally out of sight.

 

Never had a problem with anything being stolen. But, I did feel several hands fishing through my pockets while standing in a crowd and on the transit systems.

I am afraid that there are now only 2 Boys Houses left in business in Amsterdam.

The larger is the Whynot and the smaller the "21", which is just around the corner.

The Whynot has gone a bit downhill in the last couple of years and supposedly runs strip shows on a Friday and Saturady evening. However dont be diappointed to arrive and find that it doesnt happen because there are not enough punters. An excuse will be given!

I am afraid to say that you are going in the Off season so the clubs will all be very quiet during the week. You may well be the only customer. Sorry for the damper.

Use Michaels Boys.

Use the Day and Night Saunas (the night sauna will be quiet during the week, but heaving on a Friday and Saturday).

Avoid People.

Use common sense and that should avoid stealing. Simply dont trust anyone who appears to be from anywhere other than Holland (apart from the Western World).

Its is very safe so have fun......

I get to Amsterdam 5 or 6 times a year and am very aware of the pickpocket situation there. Yet when I was there in November I was robbed 10 feet from the entrance of my hotel. Thats how good these gangs are. I was lucky that the police found my backpack the next morning and I got everything back except a couple of credit cards, which I had alread cancelled. I am going again next month and will change my way of packing to hopefully avoid this happening again.

The Whynot Club has undergone a new paint job and a bit of sprucing up over the last several months and there is more planned. The group of boys working there has been a lot better over the last couple of months also. But it is slow at this time of the year and there can be a bigger turn over of boys. They still have the sex show friday and saturday nights but the stip show is not free anymore. It now cost $10.00 and is done on stage. (if enough people buy tickets)

I have used Michaels Boys several times and have had great luck.

Also the prices are creeping up with the Euro. $150.00 is now pretty common.

Its also been a much colder and wet winter than the last few years so bundle up

So has Prague overtaken Amsterdam as for has boy brothels?Is prague as full of theives as Amsterdam has apperently become.

I have noticed more eastern european boys here in LA and also in Montreal.

Just to repeat what others have said, if you are in a hurry then try Michael's - at least you can see what you are getting and my own experience with them over the years has been 85% positive.

 

The sauna scene is also quite pleasant.

 

IT has a more extensive list of escorts but most are freelancers and so difficult to get reviews on them.

 

On the pickpockets... I have never had the problem but then again I carry my wallet in my front pocket (harder to get to) and keep money and credit cards in it to a minimum when out and about.
