d.anders Posted June 8 Posted June 8 I was surprised how energetic the show was this year. The NY Times wrote a glowing review today. I had no idea that Pink could belt. I was never attracted to her music or her musical performances, but last night, she really left a positive impression. I loved her All That Jazz. She ended up making a terrific host for the show. I don't think there were many surprise acting winners. And the musicals sort of went as predicted. I have friends who went to see Ragtime, and they walked out at intermission, saying it was too depressing and boring. To each his own. Schmigadoon looks fun and interesting. I have an old-fashioned theater side to me, so maybe I should check this out. On the contrary, I have no interest in Lost Boys, especially after last night. I would like to see Luke Evans in Rocky Horror, but the worst seats are over $400. It's a serious hot ticket right now, and I don't see that cooling off. How smart that Jellicle Ball handed out fans to everyone. But with that number, you've pretty much seen the entire show. I'm very surprised the directors took home the prize. Even more surprised that Andre de Shields got nominated, since he doesn't do much other than sit on a throne. I'm sorry I can't see Liberation. I don't like when shows win after they're long gone. I have to say, Maya Rudolph and Cole Escola make a surprising fun pair. They need to host SNL together. Or someone needs to write a movie comedy for them. That chemistry is very bankable. + Vegas_Millennial 1
TonyDown Posted June 9 Posted June 9 I watched twice. Best ever Pink was awesome. Would love to see Becky Shaw and Death of a Salesman, but doubt if that's going to happen for me. I especially liked Book of Mormon "Man Up". I never saw the national tour thanks to COVID, and still haven't seen it.
d.anders Posted June 9 Author Posted June 9 I watched some of it again, too. Pink's opening number was really something. She brought so much irresistible charm to the show. I. too, have not seen Book of Mormon. Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad recently stepped into the show for a week to celebrate its anniversary. I tried to go, but there were no tickets for under $400. Insane. Like many things these days, Broadway is for the rich.
nomad Posted Monday at 09:30 PM Posted Monday at 09:30 PM BoM was enjoyable. Did not like enough to ever consider seeing it again. For the Tony's, not sure why they choose THAT number to perform other than it allowed as many of the cast to take part. Certain not the most memorable song from the show by a far stretch.
