I am very excited to see this new production based on Chabon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book at the Met. It is directed by Bartlett Sher, who also directed one of my favorite Broadway musicals, “The Light in the Piazza.”

I hope you will post your thoughts after you’ve seen it. I’ve given up on English language, modern operas. I really respect what the Met is trying to do, and I’ve tried to get into it, but somehow it just doesn’t work for me.

Will do! I agree—the Met has been very intentional, for more than a decade now, about expanding opera’s reach, especially to younger audiences. They’ve done it through accessible pricing, cinematic broadcasts, educational programs, fresh and modern storytelling, and digital platforms that make the art form feel more approachable.
