Yeah maybe controversial but MOST of the time I get either a positive reaction or none at all and honestly it helps weed them out. Obviously I don’t want to waste their time but they probably should be thinking for the long term. 
 

I’ve revisited a lot of guys who I have done the same with, and they’ve reactively positively and I’ve booked them. I dunno- just kinda a signal I use for the future. I also don’t think there’s a lot of harm in a series of 4 texts being exchanged.

I know it's a lie, but I prefer to tell them my travel plans have changed but I will be sure to contact them next time I am in the area. Works like a charm!
